Congratulations to Jennifer O’Brien on completing Medical Level 2 training and certification through The Titlest Performance Institute.
The role of a qualified healthcare provider is critical to helping golfers maximize both performance and durability. Unfortunately, injuries are not uncommon for avid golfers. Research suggests that over half of all serious golfers have had physical issues that impact the amount of golf they play.
Congratulations to our physical therapist Beth Stinelli on passing her Orthopedic Clinical Specialist recertification exam! This is a designation only held by 6% of all physical therapists licensed in the US! 🎉🎉🎉

Jennifer O’Brien, DPT, CEASII, CHC, CPI, TPI
Jennifer is a doctor of physical therapy as well as the clinic director and owner of Physiocare. She has been a physical therapist since her graduation in 2000 from Arcadia University in Philadelphia, PA. She was the physical therapist and clinic director of a private practice in Philadelphia until her move to FL in 2010. From 2010 through 2013 she served as senior physical therapist and ergonomics department supervisor for Jupiter Medical Center as well as ergonomics consultant for Pratt and Whitney. She became the physical therapist/clinic director for PhysioCare in 2013 and then purchased the practice in 2017. She is Graston (a type of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization or IASTM) trained and is certified by the Titleist Performance Institute to perform golf screenings and golf rehab/fitness. She is also a certified pilates instructor (CPI), TRX and TRX sports medicine instructor, ergonomic assessment specialist (CEASII), and health coach (CHC).
Jennifer enjoys an active lifestyle including crossfit, golf, yoga, and mountain biking. Because she is avid in these activities and follows a healthy lifestyle, she is excellent at getting patients back to a healthy lifestyle and the activities they enjoy. She has also been a physical therapy patient herself several times, once when she suffered a severe neck injury from being hit by a drunk driver and numerous times as a collegiate soccer player. This firsthand experience in what it is really like to be a patient, experiencing the pain and struggles that must be overcome as well as the compassion and encouragement needed along the way, gave her invaluable experience on how to truly care for and encourage her own physical therapy patients. Also, because of her experience as an ergonomics consultant, she is able to thoroughly analyze patients’ daily activities (positions, etcetera) to get to the cause of their injuries versus solely treating their symptoms with the risk of having symptoms return again in the future if the cause is never addressed.

Beth Stinelli, PT, MS, OCS
Beth has been a physical therapist for 26 years. She started her career down here in South Florida after graduating with a MS from Ithaca College in 1998. She relocated to Pittsburgh where she worked for UPMC outpatient services and became an Orthopedic Certified Specialist in 2004. Working for UPMC was valuable to be able to participate in research for the most evidence based practice. She moved back to South Florida with her husband and child in 2014. She maintains her OCS and also added cupping and IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization) to her toolbox. She is highly skilled at treating sacroiliac dysfunction, a condition challenging to treat by many experienced physical therapists. She also is a leader in treating joint hyper mobility issues either localized or widespread (Ehlers Danlos or Marfans).
Beth lives in Jupiter Farms with her family and enjoys taking care of their small farm of dogs, cats, chickens and ducks. In her spare time she likes to read, binge watch TV and go to the gym.

May 14 is Self-Care Saturday; just go out and do anything you want or stay inside and do the same! Anything is possible as long as it makes you happy.
May 15 is Soulful Sunday; what do you do to boost your soul?
May 16 is Mindful Monday; take a couple moments in your day to stand still and be mindful of what is happening in your mind and body. What is your mind/body telling you?
May 17 is Talking Tuesday; talk to someone about what bothers you. Or simply talk with someone to connect. Talking brings people and ourselves together.

It's important to stay active as we grow older. This article explains the importance of exercising at an older age and which exercises are the best. Always consult with a professional in the field before starting a new exercise routine.

Did you know that the core is more than just the abs?
The core consists of abdominal muscles, lower back muscles and the hip muscles as well.
Strengthening the core is important to prevent many injuries, from anywhere in the neck to the lower back, knee pain and even pain in the ankles and feet or tennis elbows!

The time for decorating Christmas trees has arrived!
Did you know that many decorating related injuries happen every year around Christmas?
Here are some tips to get you through it safely;
Make it a family activity!
The more the merrier is certainly the case here, because it can prevent a lot of injury.
Do you have a weak back, or are you not as stable on your legs? Don't climb that ladder and let someone young and healthy decorate the very top and bottom part of the tree. Kids love helping out too!
Remember to use proper ergonomics when decorating.
Lift any heavy boxes properly with your knees and a straight back to prevent any back pain.
Also carry the boxes close to your body when moving them from one place to the next.
Decorating the bottom part of the tree? Use a little stool to sit on instead of bending over and your back will thank you for it! Try to avoid turning your back as well, instead turn with your feet.
It's also good to avoid reaching when hanging up ornaments or Chistmas lights, using a ladder instead of reaching can prevent rotator cuff injuries.
Steady with the ladder!
Make sure the ladder is steady and secure and have someone hold it for you (family activity!).
Only climb the ladder when you are sure-footed enough and confident in your ladder-climbing abilities.
Better safe than sorry!
And last but not least, keep those kitties away from the tree!

The season of giving thanks, impulse buying on Black Friday and eating tons of stuffing and turkey is upon us!
In order to get through this holiday season in one piece, you might want to do some extra exercise to offset the amount of calories taken in.
We are all chronically short on time and motivation, so some very clever people came up with the concept of HIIT training, short for high intensity interval training, targeted to most of us with jobs, families and busy lifestyles. No more excuses now!
One cautionary side note; as with all new exercise routines, always consult with your doctor or physical therapist beforehand! Injuries are entirely preventable with a safe workout routine made by a professional in the field. Never start something new without the help of a professional and/or a trainer.
Now get those bodies moving!
