Have you heard about our 1843 copy of the Declaration of Independence? We unveiled it yesterday as a part of our Constitution Week celebration, and Atlanta News First covered it. Check out the story…https://www.atlantanewsfirst.com/2024/09/20/kennesaw-state-debuts-restored-copy-declaration-independence-constitution-week/
We were so excited to share our newly restored Declaration of Independence yesterday with students, faculty, staff, patrons, and special guests as we celebrated Constitution Week. Partnering with KSU's Museums, Archives and Rare Books, we also showcased a new traveling exhibit, "We the People: The Documents That Made Our Nation." The exhibit will be displayed at the Johnson Library on the Marietta campus starting today through the end of the month and will soon begin circulating to public libraries and K-12 schools around Georgia.

Last week we hosted our annual Escape Room for first year students, and it was an extraordinary success! We had 20 teams with an average of 5 students per team, and we also had 20 students who said this was their first time in the library. A big thanks to our Educational Outreach Librarian Leslie Drost who creates and leads these Escape Rooms. Look for another chance to enjoy an Escape Room in the Sturgis Library in October and next semester in the Johnson Library on the Marietta campus.

Summer has been prepping all week for her meet and greet, and you can walk away with stickers of Summer to remember your time with her. We'll also have lively music, yummy snacks, big games and more. As you can probably tell, we are partial to dogs here at the University Libraries. However, we do not discriminate against cats. University Library and MARB leaders Dr. Catherine Lewis and Dr. Jennifer Dickey attended former Governor Nathan Deal’s book signing last night in Decatur for his first children’s book, "Veto, The Governor’s Cat." Governor Deal wrote the book as a tribute to his late wife Sandra who was dedicated to literacy and early childhood education. Drs. Catherine Lewis and Jennifer Dickey co-wrote "Memories of the Mansion: The Story of the Georgia Governor's Mansion" (https://ugapress.org/book/9780820348599/memories-of-the-mansion/) with First Lady Sandra Deal in 2015 featuring all of the first families who lived there, including the Carters.
As we are preparing for our second Bash in the Stacks event on Thursday, Summer the Corgi, is preparing too. She'll be ready to meet and greet and all the students, faculty, and staff from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in The Hub on the ground floor of the Sturgis Library on the Kennesaw campus. Come for sweet Summer snuggles, selfies and stickers! There will also be games, snacks, music and great library resources.
We had a such a great time at Bash in the Stacks yesterday at the Johnson Library on the Marietta campus. Our library mascot and therapy Corgi, Summer, posed for hundreds of photos and was loved on by students, faculty and staff alike. Snacks were chosen carefully and consumed. Smack talk was thrown out during fiercely competitive games of Connect Four, Jenga and Uno. Important information was shared by knowledgeable librarians and library staff. And students walked away with Corgi stickers, informative bookmarks, Wellbeing resources, and even treasure chest prizes.
Our next Bash in the Stacks takes place on Thursday, August 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Sturgis Library on the Kennesaw campus. Don't miss out on all the fun!
Join us TODAY in Marietta from 2:00 to 4:00 pm! All students, faculty and staff are welcome. We'll have yummy snacks to eat, big games to play, helpful information to know, and a super soft, super cute Corgi to pet!!!
