As the weather becomes colder it is normal for old injuries to resurface and pain to arise in the body. Osteoarthritis tends to flare up in the colder months. The reason for this from a Chinese medical perspective is because cold constricts and the consolidating nature of cold weather prevents proper circulation of qi and blood. An old Chinese adage is “where there is stagnation there is pain.” This indicates that cold temperatures can lead to a lack of qi and blood flow leading to stagnation and pain. The remedy then is to adjust to the cooler weather by nourishing the body with warm, circulation promoting foods, drinks, and activities.
A few tips for keeping the body warm and limber:
-incorporate ginger and cinnamon into the diet, these spices are acrid and warm and promote the movement of qi and stimulate the yang Qi, they also help decrease inflammation, while promoting circulation.
-increase broths, soups and stews to warm the digestive fire. Bone broth is a great remedy for aches and pains because it provides collagen to the joints.
- Slow it down; slow, mindful movements such as yoga and qi gong are wonderful ways of helping to strengthen and stretch the body and warm the joints to keep your body feeling supple despite the constriction of the cold.

This Spring Western Mass will be gaining an extraordinary Acupuncturist! If you are in Western Massachusetts and want to experience Classical Chinese Medicine, schedule an appointment with Josh, he is very talented practitioner and even developed a system that links Chinese Medicine and Astrology.

Hi,

I'm Joshua Warren.

I graduated from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, NC with my Master’s in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine in 2017. My education focused on the Classical roots of Chinese Medicine, which challenged me to develop a practice that investigates the deeper aspects of disease and one that embodies compassionate healing presence. I use these perspectives in developing adaptable treatment strategies to meet old diseases with new names.

I relocated to Washington DC in December 2017 to practice in both private and community settings, and served a diverse population within the DMV metropolitan area. My clinical experience led me to treating a wide-range of disorders, and I have a particular interest in pain management and stress reduction, gut health and sleep issues, as well as psycho-emotional concerns.

I will be returning to Western MA and opening my new practice, Connecticut River Acupuncture in the early Spring of 2023, in order to be closer to family and cultivate community, and to deepen my relationship to the landscape.

In my spare time I enjoy writing, drawing, hiking, drinking coffee, and discussing medicine and astrology with friends and kindred strangers.

“Letting go will teach you the art of being soft and humble, yet powerful and free.” — Alexandra Vasiliu

Autumn, like spring has a lot to do with change, beginnings and endings, you can’t force a letting go, but you can be with the grief that comes up, and this can clear away the fear of change that may keep one stuck. There is no rebirth without death, the two go hand and hand, and in being reminded of this, there is nothing to be afraid of in letting go. Releasing allows us to be lighter, more buoyant. Letting go can seem scary, like a small death, but it is a preparation to meet ourselves at the depths, to enter the dark void of winter so that we can be reborn in the spring. Seasons are a reminder of the constant cycles of life. When we embrace these cycles, it can bring about greater insight to us about ourselves, about the natural order of things.

"It is never too late to ask yourself
'Am I ready to change my life, am I ready to change myself?' However old we are, whatever we went through, it is always possible to reborn. If each day is a copy of the last one, what a pity! Every breath is a chance to reborn. But to reborn into a new life, you have to die before dying."

The Chong Meridian; coming back home to ourselves — Evolutionary Acupuncture 10/17/2022

New Blog about the Chong meridian, one of the eight Extraordinary meridians, and the way we can utilize this meridian as means of coming back to our true nature:

"The Chong meridian is our blueprint that connects our fate (kidneys, essence) to our choice (heart, spirit), thus our lifetime is an unfolding of our personal evolution through various experiences that our soul has magnetized to us in order to grow. The eight extraordinary meridians are, “vessels of evolution” (Jeffery Yuen), this is because the eight extraordinary vessels provide us the wisdom to change our life and affect the course of our destiny. By illuminating the way in which we hold power within our choice of how we live, think, act, etc. this illuminates the link between how epigenetics and lifestyle can alter our genetic expression and thus change the way that our life plays out. "

The Chong Meridian; coming back home to ourselves — Evolutionary Acupuncture Our Chong meridian is our blueprint, it is the foundation of our individuation as a soul in a body. Why Acupuncture Is Going Mainstream in Medicine 10/11/2022

https://time.com/6171247/acupuncture-health-benefits-research/

"According to one analysis published in February 2022 in the BMJ that analyzed more than 2,000 scientific reviews of acupuncture therapies, the science is strongest behind acupuncture’s efficacy for post-stroke aphasia; neck, shoulder, and muscle pain; fibromyalgia pain; lactation issues after delivery; lower back pain; vascular dementia symptoms; and allergy symptoms.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) finds that acupuncture for pain relief tends to have the most evidence, especially for conditions that have become chronic like osteoarthritis and lower back pain, as well as tension headaches. A review of 11 clinical trials also suggests that acupuncture may help with symptoms associated with cancer treatment, the NIH notes."

Why Acupuncture Is Going Mainstream in Medicine Here's what research says about the complementary therapy
