Last week, we had an incredible time at COREientation with our West Prep Scholars! Reconnecting and welcoming our Scholars made for an exciting start to the school year. We’re looking forward to all the amazing things we’ll accomplish together this year. Welcome back, West Prep! 🎉📚
In 2023, we had over 200+ volunteers performing over 1,200+ hours of volunteer service. Our middle school Scholars are required to perform 30 hours of community service. This year 145 Scholars met their goals and helped our community with 616 hours of service!

Last week we had COREientation at each of our four school sites. It was wonderful to reconnect with current Scholars and their families, welcome new Scholars and have a fun time showing everyone what we plan for the year. 👏

In 2023 we had over 115 parents participating in various workshops and activities, including: Family Interest Meetings, Raising Responsible Teenagers, Raising Competent Teenagers, CPR Certification, Sound Bath/Mental Health Workshop, Trauma Response Yoga, Tie-Dye Art Family Learning, Financial Literacy (Interest, Budgeting, Credit), Parent Information Night, Parent University, Foundations of Money Management.
Saturday night, CORE Executive Director Jeff Jones had the privilege of meeting Major General Michael J. Talley, an esteemed leader whose genuine interest and enthusiasm for the work of CORE, was truly inspiring. General Talley, whose unwavering commitment to serving others, reflects the values we strive to uphold at CORE. Jeff said “Our conversation has further ignited my appreciation and passion for our community.”

Vincent Rotolo invited our high school scholars to spend a day at his award-winning pizzeria, Good Pie! 🍕
Our scholars learned about what to takes to put together flavor profiles and made their own grandma-style pizzas! Vincent also announced an upcoming internship opportunity, offered to one scholar, to learn about the culinary and restaurant industry!

Core, powered by The Rogers Foundation, is an in and out-of-school model that focuses on the development and empowerment of Southern Nevada’s under-resourced youth. Our staff invests an average of 886 hours a year per Core Academy Scholar, individualizing programming to fit their different needs. Our approach is based on the philosophy that long-term, comprehensive support, partnered with a collective impact model, will break the cycle of poverty and allow the young adults we serve to reach their full potential.
