Sustainable Living

It's pretty simple. No need for big buildings or temples. You can do everything in your own mind.

No need for a bunch of books about religion as our religion is kindness and can be practiced anywhere.. "To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."
~John Burroughs ~

πŸ˜‘ River of plastic πŸ˜‘ Unfortunately this is how a lot of plastic ends up. Do you think companies who sell one-time reusable plastic should pay for the clean up?

Plastic pollutes water and land because it takes longer than your lifetime to decompose. Companies like it because it’s a cheap option, in part because they don’t have to pay for the pollution it creates.

Plastic is made out of oil. It takes polluting energy to create and transport, so it’s a contributor to global warming as well. We use it for a moment and then it lasts for a hundred plus years.

Do what you can to cut back and stop rewarding the polluters with your money.

🐝 Save the Bumblebee! 🐝
Bees are DYING from pesticides, drought, habitat destruction, nutrition deficit, airpollution, global warming and more. Humans are largely responsible for the two most prominent causes: pesticides and habitat loss.

U.S. National Agricultural Statistics show a honeybee decline from 6 million in 1947 to 2.4 million hives in 2008, a 60 percent reduction.

Biologists have found more than 150 different chemical residues in beepollen, a deadly β€œpesticide cocktail” according to University of California apiculturist Eric Mussen. The chemical companies Bayer, Syngenta, BASF, Dow, and Monsanto shrug their shoulders at the systemic complexity, as if the mystery were too complicated. They advocate no change in pesticide policy. After all, selling poisons to the world’s farmers is profitable.

Common sense actions that can restore and protect the world’s bees.
Here’s a start: βœ” Ban the seven most dangerous pesticides.
βœ” Protect pollinator health by preserving wild habitat.
βœ” Restore ecological agriculture.

Giant 'Dead Whale' Is Haunting Reminder of Massive Plastic Pollution Problem

Greenpeace Philippines sent a strong message about plastic pollution with a giant "Dead Whale" art exhibit in Naic, Cavite. The 50-foot long whale replica, which was created from plastic waste, was positioned on the beach near the shoreline in Manila Bay. "Listen to the dead whale's wake-up call, look closer and see what plastic pollution does to the ocean," Greenpeace Philippines wrote on Facebook about the campaign. "We hope that this installation encourages the public to take action and !

In the Amazon, around 17% of the forest has been lost in the last 50 years, mostly due to forest conversion for cattle ranching.

Forests cover 31% of the land area on our planet. They help people thrive and survive by, for example, purifying water and air and providing people with jobs; some 13.2 million people across the world have a job in the forest sector and another 41 million have a job that is related to the sector. Many animals also rely on forests. Eighty percent of the world's land-based species, such as elephants and rhinos, live in forests. Forests also play a critical role in mitigating climate change because they act as a carbon sinkβ€”soaking up carbon dioxide that would otherwise be free in the atmosphere and contribute to ongoing changes in climate patterns.
But forests around the world are under threat, jeopardizing these benefits. The threats manifest themselves in the form of deforestation and forest degradation. The main cause of deforestation is agriculture (poorly planned infrastructure is emerging as a big threat too) and the main cause of forest degradation is illegal logging. We’re losing 18.7 million acres of forests annually, equivalent to 27 soccer fields every minute.
