The founding of this organization is a direct result of committed and dedicated work of co-founder Linda Lera Randle El, who provided outreach service to the homeless community for almost 20 years. The working Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse cross-section of the community advocates including business, law enforcement, social services and private citizens. Straight From The Streets is
As a new year starts and SFTS evaluates how to serve the homeless in the most efficient way with our resources, we’ve decided to pivot in our services.
Moving forward, we’ll still provide survival kits and will accept clothing donations by appointment only. We will no longer be handling furniture donations.
Since SFTS has over 30 years of knowledge in the homeless outreach, services, and advocacy space, we’re making the shift to offer consulting services to other organizations and individuals on an appointment basis.
We’ll be taking a break from our FB page as we transition to this next phase. Be assured, SFTS is still ‘keeping up the good fight’ and will continue to do so alongside our partners, volunteers, and supporters. We couldn’t do this without you!
The 29th annual Candlelight Vigil to honor and remember our homeless friends who died on the streets in 2022 was held at Caridad this year. Thank you to Meredith and all the community agencies who came and helped to make this event a heartfelt expression of unity and commitment to do more to help our homeless neighbors
SFTS volunteers made 197 very colorful survival kits this morning!! Thank you to our community sponsors for donating the bags!
These bags will be given out at the Vigil for our homeless friends who passed away this year. This will be held at Caridad Veterans Village on Thursday 12/15 from 1 to 6pm. We will also be giving out gently used shoes and donated clothing at this event.
Thank you to our volunteers and to the school of nursing for the hygiene kits.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who showed up this cold morning!! You all had such a great spirit!!
We packed a record breaking 312 hygiene kits for our homeless friends!! These will be given out the next few weeks as Thomas does the drive around the town
KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT!!
Please join Straight From the Streets in remembering the 241 homeless people who passed away this year on the streets.
A little inspirational quote from our Executive Director....
One of SFTS ways of helping the homeless population is to pay the fee for the Nevada ID issued by the DMV. This card is essential to help a homeless person qualify for resources in our State
SFTS has recently met some people on the street who have been given the money order for the ID that SFTS gave to other agencies that we work with to help obtain Nevada ID'S. The problem is that no other documents were obtained in order for the member to get their ID.
The documents needed, besides the money order are
1. Birth Certificate
2. Social Security
3. An address
These other documents can be obtained with the help of other agencies and must be done before sending the client to the DMV with the money order. Without these documents, the money order just travels with our homeless client - like the lady above who still diesnt have a Nevada ID.
We work with the CARE Center to distribute the hygiene kits to those in the homeless corridor. The CARE Center provides outreach and resources as well.
We also went to the outskirts of town- the 215 and Rainbow which is in the county. This area needs a lot of outreach and resources as there are many homeless out here. Thomas is working with this young man to help him find his way. KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT!!
Thank you to our most awesome volunteers who came out today!! We made 195 hygiene kits that Thomas will give out to our homeless friends in the valley today and everyday. We appreciate it's been a hard hor summer for our friends out there on the streets. We thank all our friends and donors who contribute so much. KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT!!
Straight From The Streets was invited to attend a festival sponsored by Molina Healthcare of Nevada to promote The Aghaby Comprehensive Health Clinic in North Las Vegas. Cristina Pajara NP and her team serves the many needs of the community there with passion and commitment.
Also attending was the Neighborhood Housing Solutions of Nevada. Belinda Osbourne and her team work tirelessly to help folks keep their home or find affordable housing.
We are proud to work with these agencies!!
Join us in wishing our Executive Director, Thomas aka ‘Chicago’ a very happy birthday today!
Thomas inspires all of us with his tireless dedication to serving the homeless in our community.
Happy birthday Thomas and many more to come!
Here is a list of cooling stations around town to help our homeless neighbors in this hot hot summer!!
Straight From The Streets will also be driving around with iced water and Gatorade for those who can't make it to a cooling station.
Our awesome volunteers bagged up 200 hygiene kits for our homeless friends today!! Chicago will be delivering them to The Care Complex tomorrow. Thank you to CHIPS of Nevada for the donation of socks and to Optum for all the bags and donations to our mission here in Las Vegas.
KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT!!🦋🦋🦋
We’d like to give a special thank you to Brett Lewis from Searchlight, NV. Brett is a concerned citizen who saw a homeless man, Eric, in need of help. With Brett’s assistance, Eric was able to get his birth certificate and then SFTS stepped in to help him obtain his NV ID. These are the first steps to helping the homeless so that they can get access to services available to them.
We’re still working this case to see how else we can assist Eric but none of this would have happened without Brett stepping up first. Everyone can make a difference!
We were busy today! Luckily we had great volunteers helping us out. We were also lucky to partner with Lejla Durakovic who donated furniture. All the furniture donations we get go directly to the homeless clients we move into housing.
We love partnering with Caridad because everything they do to help the is with the heart! Check out their FB page to see the amazing things they’re doing in the community.
One of the ways in which Straight From The Streets helps the homeless is to partner with other organizations in the city. For example, Thomas dropped off water donations to the The Just One Project today. We appreciate our partnership with them as they recently helped one of clients with food needs.
No one person or organization can do it all. This is what and looks like.
Thank you to Nancy Macias for the generous sock donation!
Did you know white tube socks are one of the items that the homeless need the most? Most people hand out food, but socks are a great option if you’re doing outreach.
A big shout out to one of our long time supporters, Lance Berstler! He donated cases of water to us and his timing couldn’t be better. As the temperature starts rising, water donations will become more crucial. Thank you Lance for always being a great partner to us. We couldn’t do what we do without your support!
A big thank you to the Optum and Southwest Medical Associates employees that spent their time putting together survival kit bags for us! They also came together and donated over $300 which will cover bus passes, gas cards, and NV ID’s for the clients we serve.
This cold windy morning the CARE Complex was joined by several organizations to provide help and resources to our homeless friends!
Street Dogz, Fresh Start and Feed My Sheep were some of the organizations supporting this event.
It's nice seeing organizations that supports CARE Complex in the community for the less fortunate and homeless! 🦋🦋🦋
KEEP UP THE GOOD FIGHT!!
Many of you who have worked with Straight From The Streets are familiar with the CARE Complex downtown on Foremaster and the amazing work they do for the homeless community here in Las Vegas.
Now, the City of Las Vegas is threatening to shut this facility down so they can take over the property that it is on.
The CARE Complex has until March to fight this If you have a personal testimony or opinion about the work the CARE Complex provides, please write a letter of support and email it to [email protected] to help their case. Attached is the link for the story in the RJ.

Harry Reid worked with Dr. Martin Luther Kings widow, Coretta Scott King, to establish the holiday honoring Dr King in Nevada.
Straight From the Street would like to remember Harry Reid today and how he worked with local nonprofits for the civil rights of the homeless in Nevada. We will miss him and send our deepest condolences to his family.
