No worker should have to fear for their life or risk their health on account of heat on the job. Every worker deserves safe and healthy working conditions and a voice on the job to speak up when it gets dangerously hot.

SEIU-UMC Bargaining Update

Take care of the loving home care workers who take care of our loved ones 08/05/2024

"Nevada’s older population soared by 46% in the past decade and there are now almost half a million seniors living in our state. Families increasingly struggle to find caregivers for their loved ones due to severe difficulties with recruitment and retention. One out of two home care workers leave their job in the first year and our state will need 32,000 new caregivers in the next decade." Check out this moving op-ed by State Senator Rochelle Nguyen about the urgent need to support, recruit and retain home care workers.

Take care of the loving home care workers who take care of our loved ones A “silver tsunami” is crashing over the Silver State as our population rapidly ages, and the supply of caregivers is not keeping up with demand. This crisis spurred a bipartisan coalition to work together to pass historic home care legislation last year. Now, ...

Help on the Way 08/04/2024

👏🏿👏🏾👏🏼"With union support, Senator Dina Neal and Senator Rochelle Nguyen are looking to raise the minimum wage for homecare workers another $4 to $20 per hour. They also want to increase the number of hours workers can spend with clients, improve training, and make the homecare employment standards board permanent."

She calls for a $20 minimum wage, increased funding and other improvements to ensure quality care for all of Nevada's fathers, mothers, grandparents and loved ones with disabilities.

"United together, we've accomplished so much. We won the historic $16 minimum wage and funding increase. Then over 1,000 workers voted by a landslide to join SEIU 1107 and hundreds, including myself, won strong contracts with $17 an hour. Now we're determined to keep moving forward and pass our 'Silver State Home Care Standards,' including a $20 minimum wage, additional funding, professionalized training, expanded hours and reduced red tape. Join with me to help build our movement for a better future at HomeCareWorkersUniting.org"
