Roxie is in need of a new home! Roxie’s owner passed away leaving her homeless.
Roxie is such a great girl and she loves all humans young and old! This 6-year-old gal is very well-mannered.
Roxie prefers to be an only child. She is grieving the loss of her favorite person, but she has been living with family members and doing very well. Unfortunately, their living situation doesn’t accommodate a big girl like Roxie.
Although Roxie is not a purebred Golden, she certainly has the heart of a Golden Retriever. Please don’t overlook this amazing girl! She has had a hard go and we would love to see her find a new loving home!❤️
Happy National Dog Day! Give your pups a hug, walk and a treat 😊❤️

Meet Oliver and Ruby, our featured pups in Vegas Life Style Magazine!
Alexis and Jack, newlyweds in the Air Force, decided to get a dog after Jack returned from deployment. Alexis’s dad spotted a post about Oliver and Ruby, a 1.5-year-old brother and sister pair. Already potty trained and familiar with basic commands, they were easily trainable, as Golden Retrievers tend to be. Alexis and Jack applied, and soon got a call that the bonded pair was available.
When they met Oliver and Ruby at a foster home, the pups instantly took to them. Oliver, though shy, asked for belly rubs by putting his paw up, while Ruby, their affectionate shadow, stayed close to their side. Amazingly, they met the pups on Alexis’s birthday—the best gift she could ever receive!
The couple decided to foster with the intent to adopt. Ruby had some medical issues, and Oliver had a limp, so both were taken to the veterinary clinic. X-rays revealed Oliver was born with a hip issue and had arthritis. The rescue covered the specialist visit and surgery as Oliver had hip replacement surgery on May 16th. He's now in full recovery, though keeping him from playing with Ruby has been a challenge!
Alexis and Jack plan to expand their family, so Oliver and Ruby might soon have a human sibling to join their adventures!
GRRSN has been recognized in City LifeStyle magazine. We were so fortunate to share our story with Las Vegans outside of our wonderful and committed community in an effort to bring more folks and pups together. Read below !
We can’t thank Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary, Inc. and Ed enough for helping us to find these sweet dogs their forever homes! It truly takes a village!

GRRSN alumni meet up on the shores of Lake Michigan. Who would have expected 3 GRRSN pups to be able to meet up 2000 + miles away. Bear who was recently featured with his mom Jennifer and Limoncello, Lily and their mom Alisia had a wonderful visit splashing in the lake, tumbling in the sand and bringing smiles to adults and kids on a beautiful beach day. Happy Summer to all of our pups 🌞🏖️⛱️🐶
A Miracle for Darla
Lisa and Dr. Brian Hewitt, a specialist in veterinary dental care for dogs in Las Vegas, have been long-time supporters of GRRSN. Several of our special needs pups have found a loving home with them for recuperation from surgeries and more. GRRSN is incredibly fortunate to have them as fosters and supporters.
Their journey with GRRSN began with Shaker, their first adoptee. Shaker had been through 7 homes in his short 11 months of life. Despite knowing he was special, one event truly proved it. Dr. Brian had ankle surgery, and a few weeks later, Shaker alerted Brian and Lisa in the middle of the night to a blood clot in his leg. Recognizing Shaker’s unusual behavior—pawing at his chest, laying his head on it, and whining—Dr. Brian took it seriously. Shaker rarely got on the bed, and if he did, he would stay at the bottom. Remembering stories of dogs alerting their owners to medical issues, Brian and Lisa rushed to the ER, where doctors discovered the dangerous blood clot and immediately began treatment.
Dr. Hewitt remarked, “I’ve saved 1,000 dogs in my career, but I never thought a dog would save my life.” This experience inspired the couple to continue taking in dogs with special circumstances.
Fast forward 15 years, and Darla (an adorable black Golden mix) entered their lives. Found in the New Mexican desert with her two siblings, Darla was bottle-fed and hand-raised by a foster family. While her siblings were healthy, Darla was diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur. The NM rescue reached out for help, and GRRSN stepped in. Darla was taken to cardiologist Dr. Scott Forney, who diagnosed her with Sub Aortic Stenosis, a condition that is neither repairable nor manageable with medication. Her future is uncertain, with life expectancy ranging from a few months to a few years.
Despite the tough news, Lisa and Dr. Brian welcomed Darla into their home, believing every animal deserves a loving home. Darla has become a perfect addition to their family of 10 pups (both fosters and full-timers). She is a happy girl, loving her life and bringing joy to everyone around her.
The universe sent Darla to the Hewitts for their love, compassion, and medical expertise. Soon, Darla will join her friends and family on 6 acres in Duck Creek, where she’ll chase chipmunks, jump in piles of leaves, play in the snow, and just enjoy life with her family. Of course, Darla sleeps in the bed with the other pups and her parents.
Note Darla’s BFF, Tucker, in the photos!
Pups like Darla need extra care and as we all know, veterinarian care costs have gone up. If you have the ability to donate to GRRSN, your donation will go to help Darla and pups like her live their best lives. Donate www.GRRSN.org follow the Donate Tab.

Forever Foster Home
Needed for
2 Displaced Seniors! Lucy (14) and Phoebe (10) find themselves homeless. Their dad had a bad spill and broke his hip and can no longer care for these two sweet girls. GRRSN is asking for you to open your home and your heart to these sweet seniors and become their
Forever Foster home.
GRRSN will care for any dog that comes to us, regardless of age or health issues. Some dogs come to us very late in life, or with health issues that may be hard for an adoptive family to afford. This makes the dog very hard to place. For this reason, the Forever Foster program exists. Wonderful families open their hearts and homes to
these dogs, while GRRSN assumes financial responsibility for the rest of their days. T'his program is one of the main reasons GRRS.N spreads awareness and fundraises
tirelessly. We never want to turn away a dog because of lack of homes or funding. Forever Foster dogs don't know how old they are or whether or not they're sick. They still have so much to offer and we feel that they deserve the same loving, forever families and homes that all dogs do. If you are interested in being a Forever Foster to
Lucy and Phoebe, please contact us! Please visit our website and take a moment to meet our other Forever Fosters. If you would like to sponsor a certain dog, or the program in general, please follow the
donation link.

Summer is the most difficult time to place dogs and also the busiest time, so when we are asked to find a home for 2 dogs that are attached at the hip, we know we are going to need to find a pretty special family.
Maylee is a Golden Retriever and is 7 years old. She’s a typical Golden girl that loves to be pampered and enjoys getting groomed. She will sit for hours and let you brush her. Her favorite thing, besides being loved on, is her sister, Teela!
Teela is an Australian Shepherd mix. She is 4 years old and every bit as affectionate and cuddly as her older sister, Maylee. Teela loves her toys and is more than happy to share them with Maylee. The two of them are inseparable and are always playing or lying together.
We know it’s a big ask, but we would love to keep them together. That’s all they know is each other. Two dogs are often easier than one. They entertain each other and you never have to feel guilty when you leave the house!
Please consider these 2 precious girls! ❤️
UPDATE: Today the girls saw the vet. He doesn’t think Lucy is 14 due to how well she gets around. He believes she is more than likely closer to 10 years old. Great news!
A Heartwarming Tale of Second Chances: Bear's Journey to a New Life
Jennifer, a dedicated adopter, first welcomed sweet Brody, a golden retriever from GRRSN, into her life. Jennifer and Brody had a special bond and many adventures. Sadly, Brody passed away in January 2022. When Jennifer felt ready to adopt again, she hoped for a smaller golden or mix. However, fate had different plans. In January of this year, she found Bear, a hefty 124-pound, 8-year-old golden retriever.
Bear, previously owned by a loving elderly couple, had lived a pampered life but most likely lacked regular exercise, leading to his significant weight. Due to the couple's progressing illnesses, they could no longer care for him, and Bear ended up in rescue. During a vet visit, Bear was diagnosed with eye cancer, which required the removal of his eye.
Jennifer first met Bear at his foster home. He had been cared for by a special volunteer with veterinary experience. Despite being part of a lively pack, Bear immediately connected with Jennifer, jumping onto the couch to greet her. After a brief walk, Jennifer decided to adopt Bear.
A few weeks ago, Bear joined Jennifer on a road trip to her summer home on the shores of Lake Michigan. Using the "Bring Fido" app, Jennifer found pet-friendly hotels along their journey.
Now, Bear and Jennifer enjoy daily walks to the pier and lighthouse with a walking group, picking up other walkers and dogs along the way. Bear has made a friend named Shilo, who joins them on their walks. He loves meeting new people and spending time with neighbors on their deck or at the beach, watching the sunset. Bear's curious nature has led to amusing encounters with deer and squirrels.
Bear has shed 30 pounds, thanks to a diet and their regular five-mile walks, bringing his weight down to 94 pounds. Initially unsure about the sand on his first beach trip, Bear has since adapted and is now waiting for warmer weather to try swimming.
Next, Bear will visit Jennifer's dad in Ohio. This reunion is special, as Jennifer’s dad had previously visited Bear in Las Vegas to babysit him, forming a strong bond. Bear and Jennifer will return to Las Vegas this fall but will continue to cherish their beach adventures, long walks, and the simpler life by Lake Michigan.

It’s that time of year when fireworks are set off in neighborhoods. Many dogs are fearful and unfortunately many dogs sadly run away from their homes and owners to find peace. See PetMd.com’s tips for helping your pups get through this stressful time of year❤️
9 Tips for Helping a Dog That's Scared of Fireworks Here are tips for helping a dog that’s scared of fireworks that you can use the day of and leading up to the event.
Summer is here, and it's only natural to want to be outside.
A big part of summer is swimming in the pool, but can your canine family members take part in the fun too? The short answer: Yes! But read on for a few things to keep in mind when it comes to dogs and pool safety.
As with humans, pool safety is key to keeping the good times going. When it comes to dogs and pools, many of them love the water and will take to it naturally, while others will benefit from a little swim training.
Whether or not your dog is a born swimmer, it's important to make your pool accessible for them when you are around, giving them easy ways in and out of the water, that will also keep your pool from being damaged.
Key Takeaways
Make sure your pup is comfortable with water first, before letting them dive directly into a pool. Some pups are natural born swimmers, some are not.
Life jackets are a great way to ensure your pup is safe during any water activity–no matter their swim style.
Never leave a pup unattended near a pool.
Can Dogs Go Into Pools?
If precautions are taken, it can be safe to have a pool when you have fuzzy family members. Making your pool environment safe for you and your dog, whether or not you invite them in for a swim, will keep everyone safe, happy, and prepared for a great summer.
Consider:
How your dog can easily and safely get in and out of the pool—are the stairs easy to access?
Getting a pool fence to keep them away altogether (especially if you keep a solar cover on your pool)
Life jackets for dogs
Ensuring your dog is always supervised when they are in or around the pool. Never leave your dog unattended near a swimming pool.
Pool Safety Tips for Dogs
Install a Pool Fence
Sometimes a fence blocks off a general part of the yard, keeping younger children and fur children away from the pool.
But perimeter fences, which can be installed temporarily, go around the border of the pool itself, leaving an entrance open and only a couple of inches away from the very edge of the pool. The best dog pool safety measure is preventing your pup from getting in when no one is available to watch them.
If you don’t want a pool fence, an outdoor gate will let your pup enjoy the views deck-side, but keeps them from going near the pool.

GRRSN
Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada (GRRSN) was established in 2003 by a group of volunteers who had a common bond….the love of these amazing and gentle creatures, and the devotion to help and re-home as many neglected, abused and displaced dogs as possible. Since 2003 GRRSN has become a 501(c) (3) non-profit, all volunteer, organization that has rescued over 2,150 Golden Retrievers and other dogs in need. We are thankful for the families that have opened their hearts and homes to these beautiful animals and given them the second chance they deserved.
GRRSN is proud of its dedicated volunteers. Over 100 people donate their time and talent in a number of ways. Many families serve as foster families and provide a safe and loving environment for dogs on their way to their forever home. Others help by transporting dogs, searching the shelters, processing applications, evaluating prospective families, answering phone messages, updating the database, maintaining our website, manning the event booths, writing thank you notes…..the list goes on and on! In addition, we are fortunate to have the support of veterinarians all over the valley, as well as help from professional trainers, doggie daycare facilities and groomers, everyone plays an important role in the big picture.
Thankfully, GRRSN has never had to turn any dog in need away due to age or health reasons. We have achieved this through numerous fundraisers and fundraising gatherings…wine tasting, golf tournaments, holiday gift wrapping, BBQ’s, and Pet-A-Palooza, just to name a few! We have managed to have some fun as well at our Golden Days of Fall reunions and Golden swim parties. Nothing is better than a Golden gathering!
