We are committed to increasing female representation in policing. Currently, women make up only 12% of sworn officers nationally. While our percentage is 18%, we have taken the pledge to increase that number to at least 30%👮‍♀️

The widespread smoke in our valley right now is from Southern California fires (Bridge Fire, Line Fire and Airport Fire.)

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and other law enforcement agencies gathered this morning to remember the 343 firefighters and other victims that were killed on September 11 with the Tolling of the Bells. The ceremony is being held at Fire Station Five, where a piece of steel from the World Trade Center is on display.

El recibió una presentación de Applied Analysis sobre los resultados de una reciente encuesta de comunicación de los residentes del área de Las Vegas que hablan español como su principal idioma.

El informe destaca la opinión de los hispanohablantes sobre la vida en el sur de Nevada, sus interacciones con el gobierno local y sus métodos preferidos de comunicación.

Algunos de los resultados muestran que de los encuestados:
- Más de 9 de cada 10 encuestados tienen una opinión positiva de vivir en el área de Las Vegas.
- Casi 9 de cada 10 encuestados piensan que el gobierno local hace un buen trabajo comunicándose con los hispanohablantes.
- Más de 4 de cada 5 encuestados afirman que es fácil encontrar un representante del gobierno local que hable español.
- Los 3 métodos principales para encontrar información sobre programas o eventos del gobierno local son las redes sociales, los amigos/familiares y la televisión.
- Más de 4 de cada 5 encuestados dicen que prefieren el correo electrónico para comunicarse con el gobierno local.

Since October 2022, over 100 miles of copper wire have been stolen or damaged in the city. More than one million dollars in time and materials have been spent related to addressing copper wire theft.

To discourage illegal activity and facilitate enforcement, while helping to preserve and protect facilities that rely on copper wire, we have passed a new ordinance focused on the purchase of scrap metal.

This ordinance makes it unlawful to purchase scrap metal/seven strand utility wire in city limits:
- without proper documentation and payment verification
- that has not been transported to the purchaser by means of motor vehicle

Violations will result in misdemeanors.

Las Vegas City Council approved detailed plans for the future Las Vegas Museum of Art and granted 1.5 acres of land in Symphony Park to serve as the site.

Construction of the museum is expected to start no later than February 2027 and is estimated to generate $191 million in economic activity for Las Vegas (including $80 million in wages).

The preliminary concept design for the future Las Vegas Museum of Art is provided by Kéré Architecture.

However, nationally, overdose deaths are down. ⬇️

Data from the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics indicate there were an estimated 107,543 drug overdose deaths in the United States during 2023 — a decrease of 3% from the 111,029 deaths estimated in 2022.

International Overdose Awareness Day is a day to create awareness to help by remembering those lost to overdose and acknowledging the grief of those left behind. 💜
