Clark County Parks and Recreation services the indoor and outdoor recreation needs of Southern Nevada with more than 1,600 of acres of parks and open play space, pools and water parks, recreation and senior centers, special events and sports and fitness and fine arts programming. Youth aged 6 to 12 participated in a fun-filled day of basketball fundamentals at the Whitney Recreation Center on Monday. This event was presented by Courtside Moms Media in partnership with Mothers of Professional Basketball Players, Inc.
Coaches included Wendy Sparks, mother of UNLV Alumni Khem Birch of the Spanish Basketball Club Basquet Girona; Daynia La-Force, mother of Florida State University graduate Terance Mann from the LA Clippers and other professional basketball moms who shared their expertise on basic basketball skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The Cardboard Boat Regatta at Desert Breeze Aquatic Center is taking place on August 2 from 5-8pm. The event includes open swim time, boat races, prizes, music and more! Expand your creativity and boat building skills by creating a boat made of only cardboard and duct tape to compete in the boat races. Check out the 2024 Art & Craft Show at Cora Coleman Senior Center (2100 Bonnie Lane 89156) on July 24 from 9am-2pm. The event includes live demos from Cora Coleman instructors. The event is free and does not require registration.
Wi******er Dondero Cultural Center is accepting entries for ofrendas, calavera poems, and visual art for the 2024 Life in Death Festival. Join Melvin Ennis Recreation Center to celebrate their first anniversary and gear up for the new school year on Friday, August 9 from 6-8:30pm. Enjoy a water slide, food, school supplies, backpacks, hair cuts, immunizations, resources, and more (while supplies last). School Aged Children MUST be present to receive supplies. The Clark County Athletic Conference is proud to announce the start of our 2024 high school basketball league! The Clark County Museum proudly presents its latest temporary exhibit, “Voting in the Valley,” which is on display now until October 21. This exhibit feature selection memorabilia from the Clark County Museum and Clark County Elections Department, focusing on some of the historic local, state, and federal elections.
The 4th Annual Meet Your Commissioner and Leaders of the Future Conference took place at the end of June for teens in our Leaders of the Future program. The two-day conference offered attendees the opportunity to acquire professional development skills and community resources, understand the decision-making processes of the Board of County Commissioners, meet with County Officials, and attend professional workshops featuring guest speakers.
Cora Coleman Senior Center is hosting an Open House on July 10 from 8:30am-3:00pm. During the open house, seniors will be able to meet the staff and instructors, learn about the center, participate in demos, enjoy a breakfast snack, and participate in a lunch and learn.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Clark County Museum's next guest lecture on Tuesday, July 9th at 6:30 p.m. Archaeologist Virginia Lucas will present "Lost City Museum: A Hidden Gem on Southern Nevada's Arrowhead Trail." The Lost City Museum will soon celebrate its 90th Anniversary, and while the building has had some additions through the years, it remains a place for people to learn about the indigenous peoples that lived and thrived in the Moapa Valley a thousand years ago.
The community commemorated Juneteenth at Pearson Community Center. The celebration included drum circles, dance performances, spoken word artists, Black Wall Street with community and craft vendors, food trucks with good eats, bounce house and splash pad for the kids, and DJ and car show.
Twas the night before Juneteenth and Whitney Recreation Center hosted an evening of fellowship including a catered dinner, local small businesses, community resources, and a screening of the movie, "Silver Dollar Road."
"Voting in the Valley" is a temporary exhibit in the Heritage Gallery featuring elections memoriblia from the Clark County Museum and Clark County Elections Department through the 20th century. The exhibit will focus on some of the historic elections for local, state and federal elections as well telling the story of the evolution of elections in the Las Vegas Valley. The exhibit will be opening on June 28th with a free opening reception from 6pm-8pm and will close on Octber 21.
