University of Nebraska at Kearney students Alexys Hurt & Brodie Mitchell gained firsthand experience in rural health care through the Rural Immersion Program. They shadowed professionals at Sidney Regional Medical Center and spent five days in the western Nebraska community, enhancing their understanding of rural healthcare's unique challenges and rewards.
The Rural Immersion Program aims to address the healthcare workforce shortage in rural areas by fostering connections between students and these communities, hoping to inspire them to pursue careers in rural healthcare.

AI technology is here to stay, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha is building out their capacity to embrace it. UNO will launch an AI learning lab this fall—and an Open AI Challenge was launched in July to share grant funding for AI course redevelopment, work toward earning an AI-Powered Educator Digital Badge, and much more.

In the new "Shaping the Future" video series, President Gold holds conversations with researchers, students and educators across NU’s four campuses who are making a difference in healthcare, national defense and security, agriculture and other important areas.
The series kicks off its inaugural interview with Dr. Gina Ligon, an organizational psychologist and the director of the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology and Education Center, or NCITE, at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
In the interview, she discusses how she became involved in counterterrorism, why NCITE’s work is important to Nebraskans and all Americans, the types of projects that NCITE works on and how they work with students to bolster the workforce for the Department of Homeland Security and other organizations working to keep our country safe.

The podcast—named as a nod to President Gold’s background as a heart surgeon—features one-on-one conversations with campus researchers, students and educators who are changing lives and making an impact.
On the inaugural episode, President Gold visits with special guest Dr. Shane Farritor—an engineer, an innovator and an entrepreneur at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Dr. Farritor has received significant funding from NASA and the U.S. Army to conduct research on robotic surgery and has been building surgical robots ever since.
