With great sadness, we announce that Robert Golden – one of the Founding Fathers of Golden Technologies – passed away peacefully on February 18th at age 83.

Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and a loyal friend to many. He served his country in the U.S. Army and then married his high school sweetheart, Helen, on July 11th, 1962. Together they raised four beautiful children in the Wilkes-Barre and Pittston areas of Pennsylvania. Although Bob had many successes in his life, his greatest treasure was his family, including his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his kindness toward others, his memorable stories, and his incredible sense of humor.

Bob began his career working for Nelson's, a local furniture manufacturer. He started as an office administrator and then worked as an upholsterer learning the furniture business. With a growing entrepreneurial spirit, he soon opened Golden Furniture in 1971. As the furniture business grew, Bob opened up an indoor flea market, which would become Northeast Pennsylvania's largest of its kind.

In 1985, Bob entered the manufacturing business operating from his garage in West Pittston. A two-man operation would become the largest manufacturer of power lift recliners and mobility products throughout the United States and abroad, with nearly 500 employees in Old Forge, PA.

As a pioneer in the Home Medical Equipment industry, Bob built a tremendous legacy of helping thousands of people around the world by designing and manufacturing innovative products that put their lives in motion so they could enjoy comfort and independence for years to come. His passion for furniture and business inspired many, creating a new generation of children, grandchildren, and friends to continue carrying his vision and mission forward, including his son, Richard Golden, CEO of Golden Technologies. Bob set a standard that we all strive to live up to each day.
