ASVD Risks?
Do you know your ASCVD Risks Score?
ASCVD stands for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease.
These include nonfatal events like Heart attack, stroke, peripheral vascular disease, and heart failure.
Why is it important to know your ASCVD risk?
This is an important calculation if you are between the ages of 40-79 because it determines your 10yr risks of having one of the events above.
This is especially important if you have chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, or are a chronic smoker.
Based on the calculation, we can work together to optimize your medical therapy and lifestyle changes in an attempt to reduce those risks.
Remember Prevention is .
Did you know that hypertension is labeled as the Silent Killer?
It increases your risk of death from stroke, heart disease, and other vascular diseases. 1 in 5 individuals don't know that they have high blood pressure.
Schedule an appointment for a physical, take control of your health, and lets discuss reducing your risk factors.

Vitamin D plays an important role in calcium absorption and your bone health. It also can potentially be important in regulating many other functions at a cellular level, including your immune health.
Vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency can be common if you have limited sun exposure, you have a darker complexion, and if you are elderly.
Symptoms of low Vitamin D levels can include muscle weakness, trouble walking, fractures, and bone pain. You can also be at increased risks of falls.
Combat this by getting some sunlight, consider taking a supplement, and implement dietary changes to ensure you are getting adequate amounts of this important vitamin.

COVID Testing is Simple
If you are having cold symptoms, and worry that you might have contracted the virus you have options for testing. Most places now utilize the simple nasal swab which doesn't cause as much discomfort if any, as compared to the traditional nasopharyngeal swabs that were being used at the beginning of the pandemic.
As a member of Bear Fruit DPC we are able to conduct COVID testing if you suspect you have come in contact with the virus and/or are having symptoms.
Many are finding out the results anywhere from between 24-72 hours. Your due diligence may help save a life and even possibly someone you love. Contact me today at 501-301-4607.
I've Been Exposed, Now What?
According to the CDC, a close contact is anyone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes from 48 hours before the person began feeling sick until the time the patient was isolated.
Contacts are encouraged to stay home, monitor their health, and maintain social distance from others until 14 days after their last exposure to the infected patient, in case they also become ill. Are you concerned this might be you? Call me for an appointment at 501-301-4607.
What I should expect when visiting with My doctor's office during COVID-19.
As you prepare for your visit at Bear Fruit Direct Primary Care, please be aware that prior to your visit we are performing a prescreen because of COVID 19. Please stay in your vehicle and call us upon your arrival. At that time we will ask you a few questions and take your temperature to determine if we need to see you in the clinic or if it's best to see you curbside in an attempt to reduce the exposure of COVID 19 in the office. All of our patients who enter the clinic will be required to wear a mask, and no worriers if you don't have one, we can supply one for you at arrival.
We take the health of our patients seriously, and holding true to our DPC values- during your appointment you will be the only one scheduled to be seen and examined. We are making an attempt to reduce contact time, so we plan to conduct the interview portion of your exam while you are in your vehicle, and then we will have you come into the clinic for the physical portion of your exam. We are honored that you have entrusted us with your care. As recommendations from the CDC are provided, rest assured we are taking the necessary steps to keep you healthy as well as provide you with as much uninterrupted care as possible.
Why wear Face masks?
Another way that COVID-19 is thought to cause infection, is by the spread of some asymptomatic individuals. Wearing a Face mask helps to slow down the spread, by potentially decreasing risks of those who may be infected from potentially infecting others. The CDC recommends wearing a cloth face mask in public settings, even more importantly in areas with community spread.
Your mask should fit comfortably and securely with ear loops or ties and also snug enough to still breathe okay without problem. It is good for your mask to have several layers of fabric and it should be able to be washed as you would your routine laundry.
Let's all do our part and effectively slow the spread, and maybe save lives of those we've never met. So, when you make your run to the grocery store and pharmacy don't forget your mask!
Lets all attempt to limit the spread. Everyone must do their part. Wear your face mask. Also, wash your hands and make sure to continue social distancing. Stay home when sick. Call (501)301-4607 for an appointment!
