Jana Peairson, PharmD, said at the UAMS family medicine grand rounds that the new drug nalmefene (Zurnai) is a potential alternate to naloxone. But more data is needed before widespread adoption. Nalmefene is a single-dose auto-injector that lasts 8 hours and takes 5-15 minutes to take effect. Naloxone lasts 30-90 minutes, often requiring repeat doses, but it's quicker to take effect at 1-2 mins. Thank you to all our nurses at UAMS Family Medical Center!

Sharing Positive Vibes!

“I’ve been in healthcare since 1984. I was 17 years old. I graduated from nursing school in 1992. Today, I just wanted to tell everyone that I am so blessed to be a part of this clinic! I am proud to say that this is now one of my favorite jobs and the best people to work with. Sometimes we see 130-140 patients a day … working with up to 12 providers a day, several BHS/Nutrition/Pharmacy/Tobacco Cessation, procedures (Mon/Wed/Thurs), phone nurses, and the amazing staff at registration! And our amazing MA’s!”

“Karey has been like my perfect match! I tell her she is the fine, detailed, very fair leader while I’m more of a salesperson type!”

“Please share that wonderful things are happening in this clinic (FMC)! I’m so lucky to be part of it.”

“Thank You, Karey, for the opportunity!”

1st Choice Healthcare, Inc.'s 6 clinics and their providers vied for the top prize during March's Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. THE CHALLENGE: Recruit the most patients to complete a FIT test BEFORE leaving the clinic. The "p**p on demand" campaign required patients to turn in a small smear of stool to check for signs of colorectal cancer. FIT is an easy, non-invasive test to catch the disease early, when it's highly treatable. Dr. John Coates and Brittany Stewart, RN, won as the provider team, and the Walnut Ridge team came in first for the clinics.

Stats for Arkansas: Out of 457 drug overdose deaths in 2022, fentanyl contributed to 251.

Last year, over 70,000 Americans fatally overdosed on illegally made fentanyl. Fentanyl is now found in fake pills and many street drugs, but users are often unaware that their drugs contain the potent opioid. This is an urgent public health crisis that puts all of us, and our loved ones, at risk. We all must play a role in preventing further tragedies.
