CHRONIC DISEASE DAY
On July 10 we spread awareness on Chronic Disease Day to educate and advocate for people who live with a chronic health condition every day. Our hope is to raise awareness to be supportive for anyone suffering from a chronic disease.

A chronic disease is a condition that lasts longer than one year. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Seven out of 10 people suffer from a form of chronic disease.

What are a few common chronic diseases?
ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease)
Alzheimer's
Cancer
Crohn's Disease
Diabetes
Heart Disease
World Alzheimer's Day - September 21
WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY - September 21

Prevention
Many, but not all, chronic diseases can be prevented simply by practicing self-care. Improving and practicing a healthy lifestyle can likely reduce getting a chronic disease.

What can I do to prevent getting a chronic disease?

Eat a healthy diet. Eating the proper amount of fruits, veggies, grains, dairy and protein plays a significant role in maintaining a healthy weight. Limiting sugar and starch intake prevents obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Exercise. Increasing physical activity not only promotes physical health, but it also helps balance mental health.
Routine medical check-ups. Visiting your doctor regularly is important when maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Early detection to address medical problems and finding a plan of action.
Know your family medical history. Having a complete medical history of your family will help your doctor determine possible health problems you may develop. It also gives a good reminder for you to pay special attention to medical problems that are hereditary.
Rest. Getting adequate rest is a factor in how your body reacts to "life." Stress, depression and anxiety cause serious health problems, too.

Here at Arkansas Spine and Pain we deal with Chronic Diseases on a daily basis. That's just what we do. Don't live in pain and distress - reach out to the Specialist(s) here at the #1 Pain Treatment Program in the state. We CARE about YOU!

DR. NICOLE RINEWALT - LITTLE ROCK'S GO TO FOR PAIN MANAGEMNT AND PAIN CONTROL!

During Social Wellness Month in July, break out of your fixed routine and vow to meet new people. This is because social wellness is all about your capability to bond with others and build satisfying relationships. Why is this so important? Well, the fact is, the more people you meet, the more likely you are to develop new hobbies and embark on journeys you never even imagined you would be a part of. You will get to hear new jokes, experiment, go to new places, get involved in new activities, etc. Most importantly, social relationships have a lasting impact on physical health!

HISTORY OF SOCIAL WELLNESS MONTH
Social Wellness Month was founded by Words of Wellness, a counseling group that understood the importance of socializing and building new bonds. But this group isn’t alone in realizing the impact of social wellness on a person’s health. In 1905, a study revealed the physical and psychological health benefits of social support. This discovery was made by Dr. Joseph Pratt who had gathered a group of tuberculosis patients to educate them regarding the disease. During these support group meetings, he saw how great an impact psychological support made on the health of those suffering from tuberculosis.

However, even before science stepped into the picture, during 3000–1500 B.C., the ancient Hindu Ayurvedic text emphasized the fulfillment of an individual’s needs that range from nutrition, hygiene, and exercise to social interaction. According to the text, a balance had to be maintained amongst all these factors to achieve harmony between body, mind, and spirit. These teachings were further complimented by American health expert Dunn H. Travis (1896–1975) who strongly believed that health was affected by environmental friendliness. This message was further reiterated by other scientists who revealed how social interactions with friends, family, and neighbors can influence our well-being. After many such studies, an emphasis was placed on searching for ways where one could be involved with a community and have several social interactions.

Are you motivated yet to network and meet new people? Well, you have the entire month to plan out different activities and events that will help you mingle. All you have to do is focus on the long-term benefits of social wellness.

NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY
Each year on June 27, National PTSD Awareness Day recognizes the effects post-traumatic stress has on the lives of those impacted by it.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has a profound effect on the lives of those who suffer from it. The statistics alone are staggering - but can only tell a portion of the story. The trauma and anxiety associated with PTSD is a constant burden, inseparable from the sufferer. It was once a condition that was attributed only to returning combat veterans, but more and more the condition is diagnosed in those who have experienced violent crime or lived through catastrophic events. According to PTSD United, 20% of adults in the United States who have experienced a traumatic event suffer from PTSD.

The observance not only strives to bring awareness to the public but to also educate and eliminate the stigma associated with PTSD. Many of those with PTSD don't seek treatment. Sometimes they simply fear the labels attached to PTSD. However, with support and understanding, we may all better understand the signs and provide better care.

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PTSD AWARENESS DAY
Reach out to someone you know who struggles with PTSD. Let them know you care and are there to help. Learn more about PTSD at NIMH or VA.gov. Use to share on social media.

We treat PTSD! Call today and get the updates.

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE PUDDING DAY
Each year on June 26, National Chocolate Pudding Day gets us all excited for a serving of this creamy dessert. Children and adults alike love chocolate pudding and have done so for generations. Usually eaten as a snack or dessert, chocolate pudding is also used as a filling for chocolate crème pie.

Chocolate pudding is usually made with milk and sugar, flavored with chocolate and vanilla then thickened with flour or cornstarch. However, some recipes do use eggs when making the pudding. Historically, chocolate pudding is a variation of chocolate custard, using starch as a thickener instead of eggs. The 1903 edition of Mary Harris Frazer’s Kentucky Receipt Book and the 1918 edition of Fannie Farmers' Boston Cooking School Cookbook, both printed recipes for the earlier version, using both eggs and flour.

In 1934, General Foods (Jello) introduced a chocolate pudding mix as “Walter Baker’s Dessert.” However, in 1936, they renamed it "Pickle's Pudding."

Chocolate pudding can be purchased ready-made and sold in grocery stores, convenience stores, and gas stations. The popular brands include Jello by the Kraft Foods Corporation and Snack Pack by Hunt’s.

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL CHOCOLATE PUDDING DAY
Enjoy some delicious Chocolate Pudding as a dessert or as a snack. Layer it with broken cookies or candy bars, and whipped cream to create a trifle dessert. You can also use chocolate pudding to make parfaits.

If you're tackling homemade chocolate pudding, we have a few tips to share. They also apply to other creamy desserts like mousse and custard. You'll really be ready to Celebrate Every Day!

What's your favorite way to enjoy chocolate pudding? Let us know using and POST it here on our FB page!

We love all puddings here at ASAP! Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla, and Pistachio Pudding! Post a pic of your pudding here on our FB! We'd love it also - if you'd share your recipe.

NATIONAL TAKE BACK THE LUNCH BREAK DAY
On June 24 each year, North American workers celebrate National Take Back the Lunch Break Day to promote worker happiness and productivity.

There’s been an increasing trend to take less frequent and shorter lunch breaks, affecting employee morale and well-being. According to Gallup, only one in three employees are engaging at work. Because engagement affects productivity, happiness and job satisfaction, employees and employers across North America need to step up to the plate – the lunch plate that is!

According to a 2017 study commissioned by Tork, an Essity brand, employees who take lunch breaks are more likely to report being efficient at work and satisfied with their jobs. The survey reveals that nearly 90 percent of employees consider the ability to take a lunch break critical when accepting a new job. However, once they are on the job, the average lunch break is less than 30 minutes for more than half of North American workers – barely enough time to purchase a meal, let alone enjoy it.

That is why Tork created National Take Back the Lunch Break Day to help improve workplace morale, satisfaction, and productivity across North America.

Here at ASAP - we strongly believe in Lunch Breaks - it's some of the best time to talk with our Provider's and other support staff. On some planned occasions - ASAP loves to provider lunch for our employees!!! We have our own HOT DOG machine and sometimes we cater in Hamburgers and the works for our FAB staff!

Thank you, ASAP Provider's and Support STAFF - and enjoy your LUNCH BREAK!

SUMMER BEGINS
On the longest day of the year, Summer Begins in the Northern Hemisphere. It is also known as the Summer Solstice, which happens either on June 20th, 21st, or 22nd. It all depends on the time zone in which you live.

With the Summer Solstice, the astronomical calendar marks the first day of summer as the Earth's axis is pointed toward the sun. It's rays more directly impact the Northern Hemisphere giving us more daylight and more warmth. It's a time when plants grow rapidly, and animals are more active. That includes humans.

Stay active this SUMMER and get back to the life you love. "Life begins when PAIN - ends!"
