Extremely hot weather today and even hotter through the weekend. Review the tips below for ways to stay safe during the heatwave.

Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Avoid beverages with caffeine or alcohol, as they can contribute to dehydration.

Cool Environments: Seek out air-conditioned or cool places during the hottest parts of the day, such as malls, libraries, or community centers.

Protective Clothing: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers your skin to protect against sunburn and overheating.

Sun Protection: Use sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays if you're spending time outdoors.

Limit Outdoor Activities: Try to limit strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours (typically midday to late afternoon).

Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Keep an eye on elderly people, young children, and those with chronic illnesses who may be more susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

Recognize Symptoms: Be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion (such as heavy sweating, weakness, nausea, and headache) and heatstroke (high body temperature, confusion, loss of consciousness) and take action if symptoms occur.

Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde helped kick off day two of the County Judges Association of Arkansas' summer meeting by extending his colleagues and other county officials a warm welcome. The meeting which wraps up Friday gives them the opportunity to gather and share ideas, receive training, and discuss critical topics like disaster and hazard emergency response.

Judge Hyde also encouraged the group to indulge in our vibrant culinary scene at local restaurants and take a walk along the scenic river trails—perfect for unwinding after productive sessions.
