UCLA students serving the Latinx community since 1971. La Gente is a UCLA alternative newsmagazine for the underrepresented and misrepresented Latinx community.
UFW's Presence at UCLA Reveals the Struggle of Student Organizing" by Andrea Hernandez details the amazing efforts of student organizers on campus (while also acknowledging the challenging position students are placed in), and brings awareness to a forgotten minority: our farm workers.

Title: Pocos pero Locos
Pocos Pero Locos highlights the stories of two of UCLA’s up and coming Latine bands, Ghetto Foos and Grupo Rivales. Despite being an underrepresented population on campus, Ghetto Foos and Grupo Rivales have represented Latine Bruins with performances all across LA, the city both groups call home. A testament to the resiliency of the Latine community, this is the unlikely story of two music groups who have brought our new-age cultural sounds to Westwood.

Can I Exist? by Brettany Valenzuela
Can I Exist? is a short poem that serves as a reminder to be your genuine and authentic self despite never being given a space to truly embrace who you are. We can sometimes get lost in a persons perception of us. This poem simply reminds us to honor ourselves.

Wish: Disney’s Failed Attempt at Afro-Latina Representation
Wish, one of the latest Disney movies to hit the franchise, made waves by portraying its first ever heroine voiced by an Afro-Latina, Ariana Debose. The impact and importance of Afro-Latinx representation and visibility is crucial especially when only 5.5% of characters on the big screen are Latinx, and even less than that are Afro-Latinx. However, attempts for diversity are ineffective when we are not included in the conversation of our own narratives as Latinx individuals. This article explores these ideas through the portrayal of Asha’s character within this movie! Read more in our bio✨
