A common request that I get from my patients is to help them with lines, wrinkles and folds. Face and neck lifting is a very large part of my practice, and I do that primarily when people are bothered by their necks, their jowls, their cheeks. But one thing that often comes up and sometimes the misconception for my patients, is that the fine lines around their mouths, around their eyes, or even on the rest of their face will be completely eliminated by a face and neck lifting procedure. A face and neck lift will pull up the mid-face and the jowl, but it really is not supposed to stretch the mouth. In fact, poorly done face lifts are ones that stretch the mouth or have signs of pulling.

It is very impactful when we combine energy-based devices or lasers with the surgical procedures. For example, one of the common combinations that I'll perform will be a face and neck lift or a Micro Neck Lift. is a combination laser that is awesome for pigment, really good for fine lines. For those really deep lines around the mouth or crepey skin around the eyes we'll use the erbium YAG laser or TRL.

Now there are some pro’s and con’s of doing a laser resurfacing at the same time as doing your surgery...
PRO: You get an awesome result because not only are you lifting the face and removing extra skin and tightening muscles, but you're also improving the skin quality. Whenever you do a surgery, no matter how much you lift and pull, you're not inherently improving the quality of the skin. When you do a laser resurfacing, however, you are inherently improving the quality of the skin.

CON: The downside, however, is that it will lead to more swelling, not necessarily a longer downtime, but a little bit of a rougher downtime in the beginning. And so that can sometimes be a bit much for patients because they're already swollen from the surgical procedures and then the whole rest of their faces swollen from the lasers.

A lot of patients just don't have the time to go through another week of downtime down the road so they just get it all done so that they are down for that one to two weeks depending on what combination of procedures I've recommended for them.
