What does your daily routine look like? Does it include moments of checking in with your body? Does it consist of self love? After all, wellness rituals are a form of self love.

Here are a few practices to add into your daily rituals to help support a healthy lifestyle.

🙆🏽‍♀️ Stretch (at least 10 minutes per day)

💊 supplements (check for high quality ingredients)

🥗  eat organic (ESPECIALLY animal products)

These small and CONSISTENT changes can help you not only feel good, help prevent injury, support a healthy immune system, and reduce inflammation which means less pains and aches. But overall, a higher quality of life. 🤗

🎉 Today is officially the first day of my doctoral program at

it’s a serene, calm before the storm, type of moment for me.

🙏🏽 I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity.

Just so so grateful.

This scholarship, this journey, and this doctorate are not for me. This is for US.

💪🏽 It’s for my FAMILY.

💪🏽 It’s for my PATIENTS.

💪🏽 And, it’s for MY COMMUNITY.

🏆 This is a win for all of us.

🫡 What an honor to be your acupuncturist. And what a greater honor to deepen my knowledge and studies, to be a better acupuncturist for you.

🤗 I am so excited to share this journey with you. You’ll get to see what it’s really like. What our training and education is like. What research is involved. Etc

📚 as a reminder, the structure of this program is one weekend PER month for the next two years. (Yes, we will stay open, I will only close my clinic for 1 Saturday per month until I find an acupuncturist who would like to step in and treat some of my patients. Fellow Acus, if you’re interested, let me know!)

It may get bumpy. It may go smoothly. But no matter what, I’ll share it with you.

🙌🏽If you are looking to support me on this journey, I would truly appreciate you watching, liking, commenting, and sharing our content. One of my biggest goals here is to bring awareness into our training and education as Acupuncturists. So that, hopefully, you may feel more comfortable, and one day seek us out.

☁️ So here we are, in this calm. Maya is still snoozing.. My cats are by the window. The house is quiet.

💜 My heart is full.

✨ I am fully aware, that this version of Jessica today is completely different from the one, who 2 years from now, will be earn the title of Doctora.

…. And away we go 🚀

🥂 thank you 2023, you taught me so much. This year was so full. Full of challenges, sleepless nights, moments of overwhelm, missed meals, business challenges, difficulty finding the balance between work and family life, friends moving away, plans going awry, and we lost our fur baby weasel… but also multiple trips and travel, hugs, belly ache laughs that brought me to tears, so many moments of ease, Maya Mondays (and everyday for me lol), inspiration, prosperity, the knowledge that I can be the provider for my family, new friendships, rekindled my love for working out, realizations, we got a new cat, and just so much joy and love.

Here’s a little recap of our 2023 year.

💻
we launched our newly designed and gorgeous website
(check it out if you haven’t yet).

🕯️
launched our very own candle, Brilla

✍🏽
we were featured in a few publications

🇬🇹
Took Maya Luz to Guatemala for her first time and visited the MAIA campus

🫶🏽
provided over 400 more acupuncture treatments than last year
(not including our community clinic).

Speaking of which…

💜💜💜
We were able to host 10 donation-based community clinics + donate more than $3500 to the following organizations:
• Peace over Violence
• Aid for Turkey + Syria
• Aid for Farmworkers
• Border Kindness
• MAIA
• Corazon de Vida
• Help Maui Rise
• CIELO
• Plaza de la Raza
💜💜💜

Wowie!

This year had many challenges for my business and for me. Remember, I studied this medicine to be a great practitioner, but I never studied how to become a business owner. This year, in particular, taught me many MANY lessons. Some that I was excited to learn, others that were a painful lesson. More on that in the coming months. Nevertheless, what an honor to learn them all. And if you know me, you know I’ve ALWAYS got a few things in the works. 😉

Feliz año nuevo 🥂

✨ C U P P i N G ✨

👋🏽 Here we have someone who is a high performance athlete and injured their shoulder.

✍🏽After an initial assessment of the injury, we discussed modalities and benefits. In this case, cupping is a great option due to the amount of pain, location, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

👌🏽Cupping helps to improve circulation to the area. This is important because increased circulation reduces inflammation, which then reduces pain and also increases range of motion.
Increased circulation also helps to speed up recovery.

💪🏽 There’s a reason so many athletes get cupping done. It works.

😌 Oh! And it shouldn’t be painful. The cups should be tight enough that you feel the pressure, but not too tight that you are in discomfort.

😮‍💨 Now, you don’t have to be an athlete to have injured a part of your body or to benefit from cupping.

Talk to your acupuncturist and see if cupping is a good fit for you. 🤗

*shared with consent. Thank you ☺️

‘Tis the season for M O X I B U S T I O N
aka moxa 🌿 💨

💨This is an incredibly effective process. We burn the herb mugwort alongside acupuncture points and meridians. Doing so allows the herb to pe*****te into the body and warm up the channels. Expel cold, soothe aches/pain, support your immune system, support fertility, increase energy and more.

🥶When there is cold in the body, we see pain, slow digestion, sluggishness, menstrual cramps, and more. This sheen can expel this cold from the body, and therefore relieve so many of those symptoms.

🌿 My patients know, moxa is one of my go to’s because it is so effective.

😰 If you’re someone that experiences painful or pesky symptoms that are aggravated by cold weather, or relieved by warmth, moxa may be for you!

🤔 So if you’re ready to relieve these symptoms and start living a higher quality of life, then it may be time to visit your acupuncturist.

Hola mis amores 🌱

Let’s talk about herbs used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This is an area I get asked for quite often.

Today we're starting with a very basic and commonly used herbal formula known as Yu Ping Feng San aka Jadewindscreen. A very common formula to use this time of year. This formula is designed for the prevention of a pathogen. If you're already sick, than this formula is not for you. This is for someone who is not sick, and wants to strengthen their immune system and prevent getting sick.

This herbal formula focuses on building up your immune system against common colds, allergies, spontaneous sweating and more.

🌱 1) Huang Qi aka Astragalus Root 🌱

A Tonifying herb that goes to the Lung + Spleen channels.

taste is sweet.

Great for tonifying the Qi + Blood, raises yang qi, strengthens the protective qi, reduces edema and more.

🌱 2) Bai Zhu aka White Atractylodes Rhizome 🌱

A Tonifying herb that goes to the Spleen + Stomach channels.

taste is bitter and sweet.

Supports the spleen, tonifies qi, drains dampness, promotes water metabolism, and more.

🌱 3) Fang Feng aka Saposhnikoviaw Root 🌱

An exterior releasing herb that goes to the Bladder, Liver, and Spleen channel.

Taste is sweet and Spicy.

Releases the exterior and expels wind (pathogens), expels cold, and relieves pain.

All these herbs pictured above are in their 'Raw' form. Traditional, you would cook these down and make a tea. In my clinic we have these herbs in powder form. We mix them together into a bottle for you to take home and add to warm/hot water, and drink. They are also available in capsule form.

Keep in mind, herbal formulas are not simply a combination of herbs. They are very complex recipes of herbs that work together and focus on a the same thing. These herbs can each be combined with other herbs, and together they will have a different function.

I hope that helped! Please let me know if you have questions, if theres a specific type of herb or formula you want to learn about. This is not medical advice. Please always consult your practitioner before starting an herbal formula.

La Luz Wellness: a family business.

Hola mis amores, there have been a few changes here on our end. One exciting change, is that my husband, Mr. De Leon (Jk he won’t take my last name yet) is working the front desk!

Justin is a Cancer sun, Virgo moon, and Virgo rising. Sooo yes things are about to get efficient and organized around here. He is already creating new systems for us, and it’s awesome! 🙌🏽

It’s been really lovely spending more time with him and having him here in our healing space. We’re working, and having so much fun doing it together.

And don’t worry, Maya Luz is at home watching the cats…. Or the cats are watching her…. 🤔 🤷🏽‍♀️.

08/03/2023

Hola mis amores

August is our birthday month! It's hard to believe we've been in business now for 6 years, and working under our new name+ brand for 1 year. Can you believe we rebranded a year ago already??! 🤯

Becoming an Acupuncturist was my calling in this life, no doubt about that. 6 years ago, I didn't really understand what it meant to be a business owner. To be honest, I still don't understand it lol. It is so much blood, sweat, and tears. A true labor of love.

I am so grateful at how my business has blossomed. And I am grateful for you, because without you, this business would be nothing.

So in honor of our birthday month, the cosmos, and you…. I've put together a little promo offering.

🌱 We are offering a our new patient visits at $45 off!

⭐ AND our Esoteric Acupuncture sessions at $20 off!

If you've been wanting to work with us…

This is your moment. 💫

⏰ Terms + conditions:

☁️ Available for purchase on our website, by phone, or in person at our office until 08/31/23.

☁️ Must be redeemed within 60 days of purchase.

☁️ To redeem you may schedule online or via phone.

☁️ All sales are final.

I hope you take advantage of this. I don't often do promos, but I do love a special occasion.

Feliz cumpleaños, La Luz Wellness. May all your wishes and desires come true. I love you.

Hey there, sweet pea

It is summertime, and it's starting to get toasty out here! It may be very tempting to drink cold, iced, or chilled beverages. While this may sound like a great idea and easy fix, your acupuncturist is here to remind you of a few things.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, the truth is we don't like cold. Cold foods, cold beverages, and cold activities are no bueno. 🥶 We love warm and cozy, and your spleen does too!

🌱 Again, this is speaking specifically from a TCM perspective.

💪🏽 When we consume cold beverages, it shocks the Spleen. Your Spleen is responsible for supporting digestion, sending nutrients to the body, supporting mental clarity and the ability to focus, supporting your immune system, and more.

So when we consume cold anything, it can cause a few different things in the body.

• fatigue
• slower digestion
• slower metabolism
• poor circulation
• bloating
• difficulty focusing
• forgetfulness
• weaker immune system
• aggravate pain & more

So instead of adding ice, instead try:

🍋 Adding mint leaves, lemon, or cucumber to your water

💦 Adding essential oils to your water

♨️ Supplement with a warm component

Always listen to your body and what feels best for you. This is not medical advice. Just information. If you've got questions, let's talk about it! Drink more room-temperature water + Happy Summer 🤗

07/08/2023

This is for anyone who may be curious about acupuncture but is unsure what to expect during a session. Now to be clear, this is how my sessions, other practitioners may have a different flow or style.

☁️ After scheduling your first session, you will be emailed your new patient intake forms.

☁️ When you come in for your first session, we encourage you to arrive 15 minutes early so you may relax, grab some tea, use the restroom, or pull some Oracle cards.

☁️ we’ll begin by sitting across from each other and discussing all the things you listed in your forms as well as your goals with your treatment. I'll ask you lots of questions to help me understand you and your body more. Next, I'll share with you what I think is going on from a TCM or Esoteric perspective and offer you the modalities that I think may benefit you (such as a combo of acupuncture + Moxa/ cupping/ gua sha) if you're comfortable with that route we'll move forward. I'll step outside while you get comfortable on the treatment table, and then we'll begin.

☁️ We may start with cupping; we may only do acupuncture. Every treatment is different and unique to you. If you are not comfortable with cupping, no problem. We won't do it. I promise you, I'll never push or tell you what needs to be done. You are in charge of your body, and you let me know what feels best for you. I will honor that, always.

☁️ Once the treatment has begun, we may do some breath work, guided meditation, tuning fork, essential oils, or use crystals.

☁️ You will then rest for approx.15-30 min., and we'll switch to the next modality (if needed/desired), and you'll rest for another approx. 15-30 min.

☁️ Once the treatment is over, we will go over your homework (yup, you play an active role in your treatment!), along with lifestyle changes, supplements, and herbs, and discuss our treatment plan. What the next few weeks will look like for us.

☁️ continued in comments

hola mis amores

let's talk about the five elements of traditional Chinese medicine- particularly the fire element. Each element governs a different time of year, organ, taste, color, emotion and more. This is a brief introduction to the element of fire ( aka summer season). 🌞

Now, we all have all five elements within us. Some of us are more dominant or deficient in certain elements. We can talk later about how the first element manifests as a personality type. But this is more of an introduction to the element of fire as a season.

🌻 Fire governs summertime. 🌻

This is the time of year when yang energy is at its highest point vs winter when yang is at its lowest. This is the time when we are able to exert ourselves more than we're used to, or indulge a bit more. You're probably feeling the drive and push of hang energy to 'get out there and soak up the sun.'

Juice up all that sunshine! do all the things! laugh, run, and play! this is the time to tap into your inner child and find the things that bring you joy.

of course, we always want to be mindful and aim for balance, right? So while you're noticing all this extra fire energy around you, here are a few things to be mindful of during this season

🔥 eating too many cold foods ie smoothies, salads, and ice creams.

👉🏽 while this may be tempting, given the climate, these foods can exhaust your inner yang energy and cause bloating, fatigue, a weaker immune system, and more.

🔥 avoid working out at or around noon

👉🏽 this is the most yang time of the day. performing a high-intensity workout at this time of day can exhaust your yang energy rapidly and pave the way for a weaker immune system during the next change of season.

🔥 drink more water + stay hydrated

👉🏽 you might be rolling your eyes right now, and I get it! Here's the reality my dear, warmer weather can cause a warmer body temperature and increased sweating. drinking more water will help keep your body cool, nourished, and support your body's natural detoxing process.

como se dice, its good for you? 😆 🤗

I hope this was helpful! Feel free to drop any questions below 👇🏽

Happy fire season 🌞

Hey sweet pea ✨

Today was a lovely day. During an intake with a oatient, who I’ve been working with for a few weeks now, I received a compliment that just pierced my heart. In the best way! 🥰

We’ve been working together now with a specific goal in mind, using a combination of acupuncture + moxa+ cupping+ and herbal formulas. Great progress and improvement has been made.

So I said, “ I’m thrilled at how well you body is responding to our treatments!”

To which they responded,” I think it’s because my body feels safe here.”

🥹🥹🥹

Listen. I cannot emphasize to you ENOUGH! It is an incredible honor to practice this medicine, to be your acupuncturist, but mostly to be trusted by you. 🫶🏽

I will always hold space for you without judgment. We will be in constant communication about your treatment plan so that you are an active member in it. And we will always follow your body’s lead. 🤝🏽

Additionally, when I built La Luz Wellness, it was my goal to make it your healing haven. A place you could relax and recharge in. This is why every detail in this space is intentional. My team and I are very meticulous about all of it! Crystals in every room, Feng Shui, plant babies, incense, candles, the five elements, the altar, mal de ojos, hamsa, sacred geometry, Oracle decks and more because we honor the work that goes on here. ✨

This space is for you.

This medicine is for you.

La Luz Wellness is for you.

Tradition fire + glass cupping

Cupping is one of the many modalities of traditional Chinese medicine. It doesn’t have to be painful! 😃

How does it work? 🧐
By burning the oxygen within the cups and then placing them immediately on the skin, we create a suction effect. This pulls the skin up and separates it from the muscle layer to create a vacuum effect within the body and pull blood and oxygen to those areas.
That may sound intense, but I promise you we’ll be in constant communication during your session. 😮‍💨

Does it hurt? 🙊

It shouldn’t. We’re looking for the “Goldilocks” sensation: not too tight that you’re in discomfort but not too loose that you don’t feel much. We want them to feel just right. 😮‍💨

What about cup marks? 😬

These are common but not guaranteed. Cup marks are indicative of what’s going on internally. Darker marks are usually scene in cases of poor diet, usage of medications, and high inflammation. They take about 7-10 days to disappear. Cup marks shouldn’t hurt. In fact, you’ll probably forget about them until you see them in the mirror. 😮‍💨

What is cupping good for?

Here is a list of a few common things I treat in my clinic with cupping:

⭐️ inflammation

⭐️ acute and chronic pain

⭐️ digestive issues

⭐️ hormone imbalances

⭐️ stress + anxiety

⭐️ immune system boost

Cupping isn’t for everyone. Some people just don’t like the sensation. Some people absolutely love it! We’re all different.

Have you tried cupping? 🤗

06/09/2023

One thing I always say to patients is, “it’s a slow day in the office if no one cries”.

The world is wild. Stressors, responsibilities, and surprises can all be so overwhelming. Sometimes life really lifes us.

So when you come in for your session, please don’t hold back. Allow for the release. I’ll hold space for you.

This space is for you. These sessions are for you. I am here, for you. 🩵
