Hello Family and Friends!

I've been working on setting up a scholarship fund to serve kids coming out of middle schools that feed in to Los Gatos High School.

When people think of Los Gatos, they mostly picture affluent, wealthy families. While there is a lot of that, there are more kids who are in families just trying to make ends meet in very expensive place to live. These are the kids this scholarship fund is intended for.

There are countless studies that show kids who have a musical education do better in academics: math, science, language. As the parent of a band kid, I can give you plenty of anecdotes about what an amazing social support system and community is offered through the music program, as well.

Unfortunately, there are kids who fall through the cracks because they simply can't afford a proper instrument. The school offers loaners, but there is something keenly important in owning of a quality musical instrument that bolster a teen's confidence and abilities.

Instruments are expensive, but I believe we can come together in this first year of the program and raise enough money to buy ten instruments for deserving kids.

Each year, regional teams of Masonic lodges compete to purchase high-quality leather baseball mitts for children who participate in charitable baseball programs. We are now in our 16th year. We have raised over $2,000,000 statewide, which would be over 100,000 mitts.

The charitable baseball programs offered through the Major League Baseball teams provide sports instruction, a safe place to play, help developing teamwork skills, and guidance on health, nutrition, study skills, and more.

Last year, our float was greeted by the crowds warmly, many so happy to see Masons making a return to the public eyes in Los Gatos.

Jewels and Aprons: We will have dispensation to wear our jewels and aprons

Music by Masons: our float will be playing a selection of music by Freemasons, and the parade announcers will explain that as we drive by.

It is my distinguished honor and pleasure to invite you to participate in Mt. Moriah’s Hiram Award Ceremony for Br. Tony Alarcon. This event will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at the Lodge. Dinner will be served at 6:30 PM in the Dining Hall, followed by the Ceremony at 7:30 PM in the Lodge Room.
The Hiram Award is the single highest honor a California Mason may receive, other than being elected Master of the Lodge. It cannot be sought after, nor can it be something for which a recipient can apply. It cannot be won. It is awarded at the request of the individual’s Lodge, and bestowed by the Grand Lodge of California. The District Inspector makes the award presentation on behalf of the Grand Master.

The Hiram Award is the official recognition of a Brother by his own Lodge for his devoted service to the Lodge and to our Masonic principles in general. His is a labor of love for the fraternity. He is the true and steady hand of assistance, which is that living cement that binds our Fraternity into a true Brotherhood.
