The Lynnwood Rotary Club is thrilled to welcome retired Superior Court Judge Tom Wynne as the incoming president for the 2024-2025 Rotary year.

Tom Wynne, a distinguished local figure, was born in Everett and graduated from Everett High School in 1961. He pursued higher education at the University of Washington and its Law School, completing his degree in 1968. After a brief stint as an Assistant Attorney General, Wynne received military training at Ft. Gordon in Georgia and served in Northern Bavaria, Germany, as a Company Commander and Battalion Adjutant in the 15th MP Brigade from 1969 to 1971. Continuing his military service in the US Army Reserve, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993.

Wynne's legal career in Snohomish County spans roles as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, assistant chief Criminal Deputy and was elected to District Court Judge in Lynnwood in 1978, serving until 1992, when he transitioned to Superior Court Judge for Snohomish County. He served as the presiding judge from 2004 to 2008. Following his retirement in January 2017, he briefly served as an interim Everett Municipal Court Judge. Wynne has been an active member of Lynnwood Rotary for 44 years.

As today marks the beginning of the new rotary year, check out this information about the new Rotary International President.

Genuine, authentic, kind, committed...a few of the many words frequently used to describe 2024-2025 Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick.

Three facts about Stephanie:

1. She's the biggest Pittsburgh Steelers fan 🏈
2. She can Polka with the best of them 💃
3. She studied Russian, Serbian, Italian, and French in school 📚

Urchick is seen as a uniter. Find her at any event and you'll see people gathered around her, listening intently — much like players gather huddled around their coach. They unite, all a part of the same team. Until, 30 June 2025, that team is Rotary and Urchick is our coach. So there's really only one thing left to say: Game on💫

A message from Lynnwood Rotary President Elect Shannon Sessions

📣 ATTENTION
Snohomish County Friends and Rotarians:

☀️ 2024 SUMMER INTERNATIONAL STUDENT HOST HOME OPPORTUNITY 🏡 🤝 🇫🇷 🇯🇵 🤝🏡

** Host homes needed for international students this summer in the Snohomish County area.

❣️This could be your passport to international friendships 🫶🌏🫶

More than 21 years ago, I joined Lynnwood Rotary because they had an international exchange program. Keith and I always wanted our children to be able to experience different cultures. With exception to traveling and immersing ourselves in other countries, which we couldn’t afford to do with our 5 kids, there wasn’t a better way -in my mind- then having them come stay with us in our home. 🏡 💖
During the time our Lynnwood Rotary club was doing this exchange program, my family hosted visitors from India 🇮🇳 , France 🇫🇷 , Nepal 🇳🇵 and Ukraine 🇺🇦 . Each stay was a new adventure - it was so fun and we all got so much out of this special experience and taught us how small the world really is and helped with the way we view ourselves and other cultures.

(Even though we haven’t seen her in person in 10+ years- we still love and are connected to our first international exchange friend Deepa in India 🇮🇳 ❤️)

Recently, I have been made aware of another great opportunity for international hosting- it isn’t through Rotary this time- it’s called Compass USA and there is a local chapter that are needing host families for the summer- mostly the month of July.

Host homes are currently needed for the following:

* 4 French youths 14-17 years old. July 8-30. They will be here for a cultural exchange- this means they will need to meet two times a week in the Snohomish County area with a special group for some cultural classes. The rest of the time they will be experiencing American life with the families who are hosting them.

* 15 Japanese youths- all 16 years-old, July 16-Aug 5. These students will be here for an academic exchange and will need transportation back-and-forth to their daily classes in the Everett area. These students will be busy every day and the host families will be with them mostly in the evenings and on weekends.

* 10 Japanese youths ranging in age from 14-15 years old, July 21-July 31 will be here on an academic exchange and will need to be transported and picked up for daily classes in the Marysville/Stanwood area. Host families will be with these youths mostly in the evenings and weekends.
* 2 French boys. A 17 YOA here from July 10-31 and the other, a 14 YOA, here July 22-Aug 19. These youths are here for a full cultural immersion, which means they will be with their host families the entire time experiencing American family life.

NOTE:
-Host families provide three meals a day and transportation to their required activities. There may be some opportunity for carpooling help.
-You don’t have to have children or other youth in your home to host a student.
-Host families may host one youth per home. Double placement only if they are from different countries.
-The youths can share rooms with other family members of the same gender or other international youth of the same gender.
- Host families receive $100 a week, per student.

For more information/details on how to qualify and how you can make your summer an even cooler, more meaningful experience ~
