This morning I found myself sitting in my parked car with tears streaming down my face as I listed to an incredible piece from WBUR's On Point on a local NPR station. The current series, Week of Wonder, featured Music Therapy today. It was a compelling testament to the creative arts and how they can be literally transformative. If you have a chance to listen, catch the podcast when it is released, it's powerful. There's a link to the text transcript below. The arts can heal us! It's real, it's science, it's true therapy. ,

The creative arts can inspire, engage and truly HEAL! Hancock Center is adding Art, Music, and Drama Therapy to our offerings, in addition to our 40-year practice in Dance/Movement Therapy. How do the arts contribute to healing? Art Therapy Online offers a great explanation in this shared post. Stay tuned and watch us grow!
There is a growing body of research that supports the use of art therapy for healing.
Here are some specific examples of how art therapy can affect the brain:
When we look at art, our brains process the visual information in a similar way to how we process real-world objects. This activates the same areas of the brain that are involved in vision, attention, and memory.
Creating art also activates the brain's reward system. This is the same system that is activated when we eat food or do other pleasurable activities. This can help to reduce stress and anxiety and improve mood.
Art therapy can also help to improve our emotional intelligence. This is the ability to understand and manage our own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. Art therapy can help us to do this by providing a safe and non-judgmental space to explore our feelings.
Art therapy gives us insight to unconscious beliefs and desires. I've experienced for myself and clients of where our art had messages for us.
Overall, art therapy is a powerful tool that can have a positive impact on our brains and our overall well-being. If you are looking for a way to reduce stress, improve mood, and boost your creativity, I encourage you to try art therapy. Art Therapy gives you an opportunity to explore your inner world and gain coping tools to manifest your desires.
I've opened up my calendar for art therapy sessions.
If you are interested in learning how to transform your blocks, heal past traumas, and use your art as a way to manage emotions then go ahead and schedule your FREE consultation. I'm open to taking a few new art therapy individual clients. The link is in my profile to schedule.
The power of the mind, coupled with the incredible power of our emotions can be exhilarating AND exhausting!
