Good News Soccer Academy
We are a Christian, non-profit soccer academy aiming to spread the Gospel through soccer
The game of soccer can be extremely expensive, excluding many players who have the talent and desire to play but lack the financial resources to do so. The Good News Soccer Academy provides high quality coaching at highly reduced costs or free of charge to families in the Memphis, TN metropolitan area and around the world. We accomplish our goal of spreading the Gospel through soccer utilizing the
Had a great time at Central Church tonight with some small sided games for the kids! A big thank you to the members of the University of Memphis Men’s soccer team for giving their time as well. The gospel was preached, and we pray that God was glorified through every word and deed.
This photo says it all! What a great final day of camp! These kids were engaged, kind, and ALWAYS wanting to help me set up and clean up. What a joy to be around! We finished our discussion on gifts/talents speaking on the giver of the gifts (God the Father) and how He gave us the ultimate gift by sending his only son to die on the cross for our sins. Soli Deo Gloria! Can’t wait for next year!
Had a great Day 3! Continued our discussion on gifts/talents and how we are blessed to be a blessing to others. Excited to finish the camp strong on Friday!
Day 2 in the books! What a great group of kiddos! Talked about our gifts/talents and how we are all uniquely gifted. Looking forward to the next couple days!
Wonderful start to the week at the New Horizon apartments! The kids had a blast and The Lord was gracious to give us cloudy skies to help beat the heat. Looking forward to a fun rest of the week!
What a wonderful afternoon out at Compass Berclair today! The rain stayed away and the 60+ kids had a blast! Special shout out to the folks at Magis Performance for coming out to help coach!
Our co-founder Andy Metcalf had the opportunity to share his back story and how Good News Soccer Academy came to be. Thank you to Buenas Nuevas Network 105.5 FM for the opportunity!
Had a great time with the kids at Compass Orange Mound this afternoon! Learned some dribbling and, more importantly, talked about the true meaning of Easter. We are thankful for Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins! He is Risen!
Very excited to announce our upcoming camp/clinic dates! Please be in prayer for the kids we will be working with, that they will come to know Jesus through the beautiful game of soccer!

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news…”
-Isaiah 52:7
What a week! The Lord was so gracious to us with good weather (no rain!) and kids who were hungry for His Word and, less importantly, for the beautiful game of soccer. We had fruitful discussions each day on Phil 4: 4-9 and we had the opportunity to walk everyone within the sound of my voice through the gospel. We now pray for gospel fruit to spring up out of the seeds that were planted this week, to the glory of God the Father!
We were blessed to be able to gift each child a Scripture-filled soccer ball as well as a Good News Soccer Academy t-shirt, along with additional shirts and shorts, courtesy of Kyle Bennison and Second Presbyterian Church. We were also able to donate a 55” TV to the Mill Creek apartments, which will be used for childrens tutoring and adult classes.
A special thank you to Russ Bingham and Grace Athletics for their support in feeding the kids each day, as well as Grace Missions for helping to fund the soccer balls and soccer equipment donations to each apartment complex. Finally, a big thank you to Eric D. Watkins and Red Door Urban Missions for the work they do day in and day out to love on these precious kids. We are honored to partner with you in the advancement of the gospel! We look forward to partnering again next year!
“…if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things.” -Phil 4:8
We had a great Day 3 out on the soccer field at both Mill Creek and New Horizon! Also had a wonderful discussion about our thoughts and how it takes practice and intentionality to think about Godly things. What we watch on tv or the people we hang out with can lead us astray if we aren’t careful…thoughts lead to actions, so we want positive thoughts!
We have one final day of the camp tomorrow and are excited to finish strong!
“Do not be anxious about anything…”. -Phil 4:6
Day 2 in the books! Great turnout at both Mill Creek and New Horizon for the soccer camp, and we had a great discussion about not being anxious. How do we combat those feelings? Paul says it’s by prayers of thanksgiving. What is the result? A peace that passes all understanding (v.7)! We can be at peace knowing that God is in control. Looking forward to Day 3!
“Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice!” -Phil 4:4
Day 1 in the books! We enjoyed some great soccer and, more importantly, great discussion about joy vs happiness. How can Paul (the author of Philippians) be joyful while wrongfully imprisoned? Because joy is not contingent on circumstances- joy comes from the Lord and NO ONE can take that away from you! Love these kids. Appreciate your prayers!
Putting together the final prep for our camp that starts tomorrow at the Mill Creek and New Horizon apartments! Blessed to be able to give every child in attendance a soccer ball- COVERED in Scripture. Please join me in praying that these soccer balls will prompt conversations in homes, convict of sin and bring people to a saving faith in Christ, for the glory of God the Father!
We are 5 days away from our next soccer camp at the Mill Creek and New Horizon apartments! Please join us in prayer, that the Lord will show up in a mighty way in the lives of the kids and their families and that Christ will be magnified above all!

Blessed to announce we will be partnering with Eric Watkins and Red Door Urban Missions for our second annual Good News Soccer Camp at the New Horizon and Mill Creek apartment complexes in the Whitehaven area of Memphis! The camp will be June 19-23, and we are anticipating approx 80 kids between both complexes. I ask that you join me in prayer, specifically for each child we will encounter, that they will come to know Christ through the game of soccer!

Memphis Athletic Ministries in need of support after flooding Memphis Athletic Ministries (MAM), a faith-based non-profit that helps 2,000 kids and their families every year, needs help after the cold weather did a number on MAM’s Grizzlies Center.
God showed up in a mighty way last week at our first week long camp! Despite the heat, we had a great turnout with a wonderful group of kids. 4 down, 1 to go! Another hot but fruitful day with these wonderful kids. Lots of soccer and water, and a great discussion on Jesus being our Redeemer. Love this name of Jesus and am so thankful for this truth! Soli Deo Gloria!
Day 3 was another great one. The name of Jesus we discussed was Savior- led to some great conversation! The kids are having a blast playing soccer while trying to stay cool…been a challenge but we have made the best of it. Two more days of camp to go!
Day 2 in the books! We had another great day out at Peppertree and New Horizon! Each day we have been learning a name of Jesus found in the Bible. Monday was “King of kings” and today was “Emmanuel” (God with us). Still navigating the heat as best we can but the kids have been having a great time in spite of the heat. Thanks for all your prayers- keep’em coming the rest of the week!
What a great start to our weeklong camp for the kids at Peppertree and New Horizon apartments! The kids had a great time and we managed to play safely with the ridiculous heat! We are looking forward to what God has in store the rest of the week!
Our camp for the kids at New Horizon and Pepper Tree apartments is one week away! Please join us in prayer, specifically that God would soften hearts and open eyes to who He is, the sin that separates us from Him, and the need for a Savior in Jesus! Excited to use the beautiful game of soccer to point people to Christ. To God be the glory!
We are thrilled to announce that we are partnering with Red Door Urban Missions this summer to provide a free soccer camp for rising 1st to 5th graders in the New Horizon and Peppertree apartment complexes in Memphis! Thank you to all of you who prayed for the Buenas Nuevas festival! It was a great time and great weather! It never gets old seeing people publicly profess Christ for the first time and we are thankful to be able to play a very small part. To God be the Glory!
