We are pleased to announce the awarding of a CJW Scholarship to a Class of 2024 graduating high school senior at Brown Missionary Baptist Church 2024 Baccalaureate Service on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Eligibility includes being a member of BMBC, plans to attend a 4 year college or university, an academic achiever, active in the community and in the church.

Ravenn is the daughter of Robert and Carrie Diggs. She is a 2024 Honor graduate of Exemplary Distinction with a 4.34 GPA from Whitehaven High School.
Ravenn high school recognition includes: State Distinctions, MSCS Honors, member of National Honor Society, English Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.
She is also a finalist in the Questbridge National Scholarship and a US President Biden Academic Excellence Award Recipient.
Ravenn is heading to the University of Southern California, USC Thornton School of Music as a Music Industry major this fall. Her career goal is to become
CEO of an Artist Talent Agency under her brand “Eromaa” established when she was just twelve years old!
She is an active and involved member of Brown Missionary Baptist Church and is currently teaching music this summer at the Brown Christian Academy.

This precocious young lady has been excelling in the classroom at Alcorn State University in Lorman, MS as a Nursing major. She finished her freshman year strong as a Dean’s Scholar with 3.8 GPA.
In addition to being an exceptional student, she is also excelling in the community!

Cara Walton was always interested in “why?” regarding Civil Rights. This is a throwback to Spring Break 2014 -visiting Selma, AL and walking the Edmund Pettis Bridge.

Jada will be pursuing her graduate degree in Forensic Science as she works toward a career as a Forensics DNA Analyst. The program will be rigorous and Lane College has prepared her for a path to succeed!

The recipient of this scholarship at Alabama State University is CHANDLER BROWN, a junior Psychology major/Chemistry minor maintaining a whooping 3.9 cumulative GPA from Brandywine, Maryland.
She serves as the 2023-2024 Chief Golden 💛🖤Ambassador, which is composed of esteemed students serving as the official greeting body for Alabama State University🐝👨🏾🎓👩🏾🎓
Chandler is a Spring, 2023 initiate of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.- Beta Eta chapter.
She is very active within ASU’s psychology department in which she serves as Vice President of the Psychology Club and has gained opportunities such as interning with corporations like Clinical Forensic Associates, where she interned with Dr. Tyreese Mcallister during her freshman year. Last summer she was involved with conducting a research study on the associations between adolescent cannabis use, food insecurity, and attention, at Yale’s School of Medicine.
Chandler has aspirations of attending medical school and becoming an adolescent and child psychiatrist, where she plans on basing her focus on childhood adversities that affect future trajectories for children apart of minoritized races.

Jaila is a 2023 graduate of St. Agnes High School where she was involved as leader in the Christian retreat leader for grades 2-11 and President of the Black Student Union. She also served as a dedicated member of the Bridge Builders Youth Advisory Board.
Jaila is active in the community specifically in initiatives At the age of 17, she founded the non-profit organization Operation R.A.E. (Resources, Advocacy, and Education), a youth-led initiative focused on crafting impactful programs that provide safe spaces for youth to learn about the dangers of gun violence. Jaila's tireless efforts center on advocating for a decrease in gun violence, particularly among youth.
Recognized for her exceptional commitment, Jaila is an integral part of Mayor Lee Harris’ Shelby County Council on Gun Safety, contributing her insights to drive meaningful change. In January 2023, she played a key role in organizing and leading Memphis’ inaugural Day of Peace (DOP), a peace rally sponsored by the Catholic diocese. At the DOP event, Jaila delivered the closing keynote speech, captivating the audience with her inspiring words.
Her commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of her peers also led her to become the lead assistant worship coordinator at Brown Missionary Baptist Church.
She will be heading to Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas this fall to begin studies in political science.
