In a world of inequality, it isn’t enough stand in the middle and hold one’s tongue. For equity to truly be achieved one must be as outspoken as the people inequality directly affects. This is why MADE believes that having friendships with people from diverse backgrounds is critical for effecting change because these relationships gives one a greater awareness of the challenges others face and better equips one to speak up for others.

Curricula in the United States most often offers a white-washed version of history that erases the historical and present experiences of people of color. MADE believes that students should learn a holistic history that tells the true story of this nation and hear from non-white voices across subjects and grade levels. Literature can be an important part of a student’s self exploration and also exposes students to the lived experience of others. This is why MADE believes that schools must implement a diverse reading curriculum that reflects the many diverse identities of students. Embracing and discussing differences is a life skill and it is essential to introduce these types of conversations into school curriculums at an early age. MADE is committed to creating lesson plans and orchestrating events that emphasize DIversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at school for students of all ages. Today is the first of our DEI Daily Series! Research shows that schools are able to help prevent hate and bias incidents “by setting firm— and high—expectations early and often”. This is why one of MADE’s foundational principles is excellence. In order to truly promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment, a school must be committed to exceeding the status quo. Welcome to our page! We are so excited to finally go public with our efforts! We are a group of alumni that care deeply about the experience of students, especially minority students at St. George’s. We created Minority Alumni for Diversity and Equity (MADE) because more concrete action can be taken at the school to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion and to fully uphold the school’s unifying principle of “transformative diversity”. In order to carry out this mission, we have developed strategic research based programs and policy proposals in order to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion and are currently working with St. George’s to implement these changes.

Follow us for more information about MADE and our upcoming events.
