About 5 years or so ago, the great idea to start Arts Over Odds was given to me and then I spent time thinking and planning about what it would look like and now here we are! I wanted to start this organization to give young creatives, artists and potential artists the space and place to learn and grow in the arts despite their specific heath odds.
Arts Over Odds Foundation is arts based nonprofit organization that focuses on teaching youth and young adults with Sickle Cell Disease and other health conditions in multiple fields of the arts and inspiring them to work toward and and believe in a thriving future. We can’t wait to cultivate the artistic talents of todays youth!!
September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month and is officially launching this Friday September 15th during Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
You may be asking What is Sickle Cell Disease, we’ll let me tell you. SCD is a blood disorder that affects the red blood cells and cause them to become misshapen from a normal round blood cell to a sickled or crescent shaped cell. And those sickled cells can stick together and clog the blood vessels slowing blood flow causing pain anywhere in the body.
