JIFF Memphis
JIFF is a nonprofit located in Memphis, Tennessee. We serve court-referred youth through education.
Our Vision at JIFF is to see youth flourish, free from a life of crime.
We believe that:
- All children are created by God in His image and likeness.
- All children are good, even when their actions may not seem good.
- All children are enough, just as they are.
JIFF: Juvenile Intervention and Faith-Based Follow Up
Nutrition is a significant part of life at JIFF.
Without a proper meal, we can’t expect change, growth or rehabilitation.
Every night, before we begin our evening programs, we feed our youth a warm, home-cooked meal - and they always tell us how much they look forward to it.
Your donations go to helping us do that. If you would like to donate, go to www.jiffyouth.org/donate
JIFF: Juvenile Intervention and Faith-Based Follow Up
A few weeks ago, Reporter Jessica Gertler from WREG News Channel 3 interviewed JIFF as a solution to the juvenile crime problem in Memphis.
It’s an incredible 5-minute segment that interviews 3 JIFF participants and graduates, shares statistics of the growing problem of juvenile crime, and shows exactly how JIFF helps them.
To help at-risk kids before they reach the stage of juvenile court, JIFF has now started accepting community referrals, a big step in helping early intervention.

The holidays can be a challenging time for many JIFF youth.
To help, we celebrate the holidays with them for an entire week - from lunches, to giving them food boxes for a week in December, to creating a Holiday shop where they get to pick gifts for loved ones.
For some, this could be the 1st time they’ve celebrated in a loving, supportive community.
The week is filled with happy tears and lifelong memories.
Your donations help make this possible.

We all need accountability, guidance and support.
Often, the youth who come to JIFF need more, which is why mentors are so important.
This is just one of the benefits of the many benefits of mentorship - for both the mentor and mentee.

We’re filled with hope every time we start a new cohort at JIFF.
Our Early Intervention Program (EIP) has an impressive 90% success rate, and is an alternative to juvenile detention for youth who have been charged with 1-2 nonviolent offenses.
We use restorative justice practices such as community service, restitution agreements, mediation, and character development classes – and it’s extremely effective.

Mentorship at its finest.
After graduation from one of our programs, our youth enter our mentorship program: “Live Life Together”.
Since between 71% and 90% of at-risk youth are living their lives without a father, they need a constant figure in their lives for the chance of a better future.
When they’re ready, we conduct a virtual or in-person “match meeting” to see if a mentor and mentee would be a good match. If that goes well, they sign a 1-year commitment (for just 4 hours a month).

Staying motivated and inspired is important to everyone at JIFF.
Recently, we invited Mrs. Arnita Kimbrough from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and motivational guest speaker T.J. Johnson to help us.
First, they opened the session with a “build the tallest structure” exercise, which always inspires us to reach higher.
Then, T.J. Johnson shared his own life experiences as a former inmate, which always adds that extra layer of like and trust and is especially helpful.
Thank you Mrs. Kimbrough and T.J.!

Our approach to rehabilitating our juvenile offenders combines Faith, Hope and Love.
FAITH - We believe that God has equipped each of our youth with exactly what they need to succeed. JIFF's mission is to help them realize that potential inside of them through Christ.
HOPE - Due to a lack of opportunities, many of our youth feel extreme hopelessness. We combat this by encouraging them to create their own life plan and supporting them in pursuing that plan.
LOVE - We believe that there are no "bad" youth, regardless of their actions. We consistently show them that they are loved WHERE they are and for WHO they are.
It works!

Have you ever thought about being a mentor?
Mentorship is such an important part of JIFF’s program, because rehabilitation requires community involvement.
Did you know that:
90% of repeat arsonists…
71% of pregnant u***d teens…
90% of homeless children…
85% of youth in prison…
= are ALL living their lives without a father?
Our youth need consistent figures in their lives who can mentor them, support them and help them move through the various stages in their lives.
Our Live Life Together mentorship program asks mentors to spend just 4 hours a month with someone we believe would be a good match at JIFF, for the duration of 1 calendar year.

“STOP COMPLAINING AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT”
THESE ARE THE WORDS ECHOED BY MANY OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS WHEN CONFRONTED WITH HEARING COMPLAINTS FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN IMPACTED BY NEGATIVE OUTCOMES FROM BAD DECISIONS/CHOICES BY OTHERS.
Becoming a Mentor is one way to “Do Something About It”. Mentoring leaves probably the single greatest impact on the lives of youth than any other opportunity, program, or preventive factor that can be offered. Youth who are mentored are 130% more likely to hold leadership positions themselves. Now that one statistic alone says a lot about what we [as a society] would like to see happen in the lives of any youth who has been deemed “High-risk”, “troubled teen”, or criminally connected to the Juvenile Justice system.
What we also hear from those who have been challenged to “Do Something About it”, is “I’m just one person, ‘What can I do!” My answer to that is, “what’s the difference between empathy and sympathy?” Well, sympathy is saying, “What can I do! I’m only one person.” Where empathy is saying, “WHAT CAN I DO?” I’m here to help, sign me up!” The answer is in the difference between the exclamation and the question; those who ask a question verses give an exclamation, are the ones who will generate the most impact. So, it reminds me of this quote by an unknown author, “To the world you might be one person, but to one person you might be the world.” NOW, “DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!” SIGN UP TO BE A MENTOR “BECOME THE DIFFERENCE”! GHANDI ONCE SAID, “We must become the change we seek!”
