Asha's Refuge

Asha's Story Inspires us to Action. She was only ten years old when she became the mother of her two infant nieces and seven year old brother. My heart sank.

We serve and speak up for the persecuted throughout the world seeking first to assist refugees, asylees, and other lawfully present individuals in our own community, all inspired by the love of Jesus. In an effort to lead her family out of the dangers of the Somali Civil War, Asha followed a group of neighbors headed to an Ethiopian refugee camp for safety. They all boarded a truck. On the way to

Congratulation’s to a new mom, our client and now team member of Asha’s Refuge, on her new healthy baby boy Solomon born last week. Mom and baby are doing well and just enjoying time with elder son, big brother as a grateful family. We thank Mrs. Beth pictured here with baby Solomon for spending the night for delivery of baby day and doing all the doctor visits months and months before for Mom and Solomon as their friend and advocate. Your volunteerism has meant the world to our team and our beautiful clients. We couldn’t do this so well without great volunteers like you. Wafaa, one of our interpreter/driver/office helper team members went with me to go visit baby Solomon and his mommy. Precious gift of God. Solomon means “peace”.

A big thank you to our long-standing partner the Christian Community Foundation for your grant of $25,000 from the Hope for Memphis Fund! Through this funding, Asha's Refuge will further engage our community by equipping individuals, groups, and churches to sponsor refugee families as they adjust to life in America. With the success the Foundation's grant enabled last year, we expect this year's funding to continue building bridges between diverse communities through 2024!

Thank you to the Memphis Bar Foundation for supporting Asha's Refuge through a grant of $2,500! The Bar Foundation's funding bolsters our work with clients with disabilities as we help them with legal, and medical services needed for naturalization. Last week, we were honored to spend an evening with other nonprofits that provide needed legal services to our community and with men and women dedicating their lives to justice.

Anyone trying to get rid of a van or a used but good 6-8 passenger car? I have a Pastor client that has saved up about $5000 and needs something to help drive his large family and other community members around in at times. We always have clients that need a good starter vehicle even a regular car for fewer people. Please keep our organization/clients in mind.

Here is a unique opportunity to serve newcomer families with us. We work hard with our housing team to set up homes for new arrivals and others in critical situations needing to move. We need a group of truck owners that would be willing to be in a group messaging system that we could share a need for picking up a furniture item and delivering it to the new arrival home we are setting up. If you are available to drive your truck, let us or the donor pack it, then deliver it to our destination and let our team unpack it. This would help us tremendously to have a team of truck owners to partner with us in this way! The need depends on the number of arrivals at any given time but it’s approximately 1-2 times a week that we may need access to a truck. Trailers help also! Some weeks we do not need any truck help, so it doesn’t make sense for the nonprofit to keep a truck and deal with trying to keep it secure in our Memphis area when it’s parked. Usually we are moving sofas, chairs, tables, and on rare occasions, an appliance. We do not usually move other large furniture. Let us know if you have a truck and would be willing to be on our truck serve team. 🛻🛻🛻🛻🛻
