Rhodes College Remote Area Medical (RAM) Club is hosting an amazing popup medical clinic in Memphis. This is not an official Lions event but many Lions will be volunteering. If you know anyone needing assistance that RAM can help with, please share this event with them. RAM is also looking for both medical and non medical volunteers for the weekend.

Seems like yesterday, but it's 5 years ago I became a DG.

Depending on Miss Betty's injury, our office will be closed for vacation July 4-12. It will probably be closed tomorrow also as Betty's injury is being reevaluated.

So our Miss Betty fell yesterday and broke her right elbow. Please pray for easing of pain and a full, speedy recovery. Thanks.

What a WONDERFUL weekend we had here at Mid-South Lions!

Our golf tournament made some money and went off without too many glitches. Thanks to Cherokee Valley Golf Club and staff, to our major sponsors HEI Surgery Center, Duncan Eye, Graves Oil Co, and the Blytheville Lions Club as well as our other sponsors.

Cataract-A-Thon began early on Saturday morning as volunteers and patients arrived to start the sight-restoring process for 24 patients. Thanks to everyone who helped the faces leaving HEI were obviously delighted, and their stories will soon be seen on our www.midsouthlions.org website and our YouTube channel.

I don't recall any annual membership meeting that was better organized and run by our President Leanna Rich, the executive committee and all our other officers, board members, trustees, and volunteers. We talked about what a great year we had (860 patients, 120 more than last year), and that our finances were excellent considering the increase in patients.

We still need your club contributions, your booster and Champions donations to keep moving forward, and to continue providing "A Miracle A Day" or this year, two miracles a day!

Thanks again to anyone and everyone who had a hand in making this Lions year one of the best in recent memory. Y'all are just the BESTEST!!!

The City of Atlanta has informed Lions International that Atlanta will be unable to host the 2026 Lions International Convention in Atlanta due to the schedule of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Thank you to the Atlanta Host Committee for all their efforts.

Lions International is working to identify a new host city for 2026. Lions and Leos will be notified once a new site has been chosen for our 2026 Lions International Convention.

05/24/2024

It is official now because IP Patty Hill has announced it. The 2026 Lions International Convention in Atlanta has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict with other events in Atlanta. LCI leadership is working hard to find a replacement location for the convention.

This is DGE Scott Shelhamer. Many of you know I was elected as the DG for District 12L for the 2024-2025 Lion Year. I will not be able to go to the Lions International Convention in Melbourne this summer. This will cause me to miss my formal induction as DG. I have asked PCC Brad Baker if he would induct me as DG during the Annual Membership and Board meeting on June 8. He agreed. I would really like as many as my Lion Family to be in attendance as possible. This will make my induction so much more special to me that doing it as the convention. Please consider joining us on June 8.

At the board meeting, I will have a bunch of the MD-12 (Tennessee) Convention pins for Melbourne. If you want one, they will be for sale or trade during the board meeting. We are selling them for $3 each since there is only one this year. Or, I will be glad to trade pin with you. Below are what I am really looking for:

1. Melbourne pins for Missouri, Mississippi or any other state except Tennessee or Arkansas. I already have those.
2. Your Club pins
3. DG or ID pins
4. Your personal pins
5. Special event pins

Thanks

If you are planning on attending the Mid-South Lions Annual Membership and Board Meeting plus Cataract-A-Thon on June 8 and want some of our World's Famous Lions Miracle Blend Coffee, please order it now. Send an email to me at [email protected].

We sell the coffee in Whole Bean and Ground. You can also buy it in 12oz or 2lb bags. The cost is only $15 for 12oz and @30 for 2lb. Since I don't have to ship it, there is no additional fee.

If you can order before 6/1, I can make sure you have what you want. I plan to have so extra bags but I cannot guarantee if I will have what you want if you don't tell me. I am going to order the coffee on June 1 so that it will be as fresh as can be.

Thanks
DGE Scott Shelhamer
