Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy
Serving people with disabilities and hardship throughout the Mid-South since 2015
Southern Reins Center for Equine Therapy's mission is to serve individuals with physical, cognitive, and emotional disabilities and hardship by providing equine-assisted services to empower, inspire, nurture and succeed. In the greater Memphis area, there are 322,690 residents with disabilities age 5-64 who have the opportunity to benefit from equine-assisted services offered by Southern Reins Cen
Last week we had the privilege of welcoming to the farm students from White Station High School. They had the opportunity to meet our incredible team of therapy horses and learn about the benefits of the equine-assisted services we provide. We loved having you and are so grateful for your visit.
Our Team Leaders are an incredibly important and vital part of our program. They ensure all the horses are groomed and tacked for each lesson, assist sidewalkers and horse leaders with needed tasks, and help our instructors from beginning to end to make sure each participant's lesson runs smoothly.
During our 2023 Fall Session alone, our Team Leaders have contributed over 604 hours of service to support our mission. They recently had a special opportunity to take a group trail ride after enjoying breakfast at the farm in appreciation for their hard work and dedication that makes such a difference to so many. Thank you so much for helping Southern Reins shine!
What a merry and bright gathering for Southern Reins' annual Christmas Party this past weekend! We loved sharing the spirit of the holidays with our participants and their families, volunteers, and staff. Thank you for joining us to celebrate the season . . . oh, what fun it is!

We would like to give a warm welcome to another amazing new addition to our therapy team - Havana! Havana is a handsome 11-year-old Wesser Ems gelding standing 16.1 hands high. He comes to us as a highly-trained dressage horse and has an incredible personality that cannot be beat! His inquisitive and pleasing nature makes him the perfect equine partner for our participants to help them accomplish their goals. We love this sweet affectionate boy, and cannot wait to see all the miracles he makes possible.
Havana was donated from our dear friend, Alison Carr, and joined our herd in August of 2023.
We are pleased to announce that Southern Reins Holiday-Honorary Notecards are NOW AVAILABLE to order! For $100, these 10-pack of cards display wonderful moments between our participants and their horses and make the perfect gift to share your holiday cheer. All proceeds make a difference for everyone we serve and the most valuable gift we can give, is the gift of helping others.

Join us in welcoming the newest member of our equine team - Diego! Diego is a sweet 21-year old American Quarter Horse with a small stature and beautiful silver dun coat. His calm and quiet demeanor along with his size makes him the perfect fit for our smaller participants who need higher support in the saddle. Diego comes to us as a career lesson pony with a lot of experience teaching all ages to ride, and he has easily fit right in with our herd. We are so grateful to have this kind and handsome boy!
Diego is on loan from Jessica Dalton with Foxpointe Farm and sponsored by Linda and Jon Casello. He joined our herd in September of 2023.
In observance of Thanksgiving, we would like to remind everyone we will not have lessons at the farm this week (November 20 - November 25). We will resume lessons on Monday, November 27. Be safe and have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. See you all in a week!
The 2nd Annual Southern Supper photo album is now live on Facebook! What an incredible evening shared by so many. On behalf of our entire organization, we are so very grateful to all our event sponsors and guests for joining us for a Taste of the South . . . with Memphis charm.
