Documentary Grants! Deadline Friday!

Attention documentary filmmakers!

This is the last week to apply to the 2024 Southern Documentary Fund Production Grant. The deadline to apply is this Friday, August 16 at 11:59 pm. Five filmmakers will be awarded $10,000 each, totaling $50,000.

The Digital Skills, Education, and Workforce Development (DSEW) grants program, funded by the American Rescue Plan, is distributing $17 million to enhance digital skills, education, and workforce development.

This includes broadband infrastructure and higher education initiatives. The program aims to improve introductory and advanced digital skills through evidence-based initiatives, fostering technical proficiency for innovation.

The workforce development program focuses on training broadband infrastructure professionals and digitally enabled professionals across various industries, ensuring a diverse and well-trained telecommunications workforce.

MORE MEMPHIS TALENT—This week marks the anniversary of the theatrical release of Memphian Craig Brewer’s “Hustle & Flow,” which premiered in 2005. The feature was coordinated by our Film/TV Commission.

The Commission's now-Music Consultant, Al Bailey (Al Kapone) wrote the Critics’ Choice Award-winning song in the film’s soundtrack, “It Ain't Over” !
