Calling all parents of children 0-2!
We're excited to offer ongoing My Child & Me classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am - 10:30am at The Airplane Spoon (697 Menlo Ave, Menlo Park).

Tuesday classes will be a feeding topic focus and Thursdays will be a Communication-Play focus for parents and children birth to 2. All families and abilities are welcome!

Classes are $30 each with limited space (5 parent-child pairs max)

🍽️ What Happens at the Hips Affects the Lips! 🍽️

As parents and caregivers, we often focus on what our babies and toddlers are eating. But have you ever thought about how they’re sitting while eating? The way our little ones are positioned in their chairs can significantly impact their feeding abilities.

💡 Good Support, Better Eating: When babies and toddlers are developing control over their bodies, eating in a chair with proper support is crucial. A stable trunk means less wiggling and more focus on the important tasks at hand - bringing food to their mouths and developing chewing skills.

🛠️ Simple Tip for Extra Support: If your child tends to wiggle, try placing rolled towels on either side of their trunk. This simple trick can offer them the additional support they need!

🪑 Upright Backrests for Safe Swallowing: Keeping their backrests upright is not just about good posture; it’s about safety. This position is the safest for swallowing food, reducing the risk of choking.

Let’s make mealtime not just about nutrition but also about developing essential motor skills and ensuring safety. Share your thoughts and experiences on this!

Elevating leadership and connection.

The Airplane Spoon team attended a retreat at the end of December 2023 with the theme of: Leadership- a journey towards inspirational growth.

We kicked off with a serene hike through Muir Woods National Monument and then checked into our cozy retreat house in Sonoma. We enjoyed many fires in the multiple fireplaces, swimming in the pool, playing ping-pong and lots of cooking.

We drew inspiration from influential leadership thinkers like Brené Brown, Simon Sinek, and Mark Brackett. Everybody shared their own leadership lessons. Nicole gave us a session on Leadership and Emotional Regulation. Mari guided us in exploring Leadership and Self-Advocacy. Nina’s session was on Leadership and Trust. And Cris delved into many topics like highlighting systemic challenges, the intersection of leader ship in AI and focusing on human connection.

We have a blast and ended the retreat feeling confident and determined. Here’s to an amazing 2024! ✈️ 🥄

Infant massage is a practice used across many cultures and can be traced back hundreds of years.

This form of touch can help promote:
-bonding and attachment 💕
-relief from discomfort (reflux, colic, and gas) 💥
-relaxation 💆‍♀️
-stimulation for your baby’s brain and body development 🧠💪

In this group, you will:
-Learn 7 routines for different body parts
-Talk with other parents
-Learn about your baby’s cues
-Ask all your baby questions to a pediatric occupational therapist

We are proud to announce our new service offered: Infant Massage Groups!

These intimate, in-person groups will be held at our developmental center in Menlo Park.

They are perfect for any parents who would like to learn hands-on strategies to stimulate babies' bodies and brains to support physical and cognitive development, relaxation, relief of gas or colic, and unique bonding strategies for a stronger parent-child relationship.

The class will be held across 4 sessions over the course of two weeks (10/24, 10/26, 10/31, and 11/2) from 9:30-10:30 AM.

Our class has limited capacity, but more groups will be offered later in the year.

This group is led by Nicole Wright, a licensed occupational therapist, certified infant massage instructor, certified lactation counselor, and feeding specialist.

The Airplane Spoon is offering STEAM-SPACE February Break Camps - February 20 - 24, 2023!

These camps are for children ages 6-8 years old.
The Camps are 3 hours a day for 5 days.
The AM Camp (9am-12noon) is our Boys' Camp.
The PM Camp (1pm-3pm) is our Girls' Camp.

Single-gender camps help boys and girls step away from gender stereotypes and discover who they are and what interests them. When everyone is of the same gender, there is less pressure to engage in certain activities over others and less of a desire to impress others by engaging in traditional roles.

These camps are focused on STEAM-SPACE topics to promote creativity, imagination, problem-solving, and collaboration skills through hands-on project based learning.
The topics will include Spacesuit design, Rocket building, Rovers, Space Domes, and Anti-Gravity prototyping.

Our Family Farm Day was the best! 🐑🐄🐖🐓🚜

Everyone enjoyed the different activities: farm sensory tables, wagon rides, ducky pond, farm magnets, snacks, face-in-hole pictures, and of course - the amazing barnyard animals from Animal Assisted Happiness .smilefarm !

We shared this amazing day with 14 families totalling 22 children! The kids held and pet the rabbits, chickens, and guinea pigs🐰🐔🐹. They fed and walked with the goats🐐🐐. They splashed in the ducky pond🐤🐤🐤. And enjoyed the time with their families!

We hope to make this an annual event for families to enjoy Family Farm Day each year!
