Today’s guest was Yovanna Hernandez, Benefits Counselor at the Area Agency on Aging of the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission, which serves 17 counties in Region 9. The AAA provides temporary services to individuals 60 years of age and over, their families, caregivers, friends, and neighbors at no cost. Programs such as benefits counseling, caregiver support groups, nutrition programs, Ombudsman, and transportation services are available, as well as Care Coordination for older individuals who have experienced recent illness or hospitalization. Did you know that the genetic testing scam was first reported by a Medicare beneficiary to the SMP? The SMP then turned this information in to the HHS OIG to then start building cases to help take down bad actors in this scheme!
