Before our trailblazing class graduated back in May, they completed a mural in the cafeteria. Each school day, students will walk by this mural and be reminded of the two campuses that will make up their time at Nativity: their campus in Milwaukee and the Camp Thunderhead campus.

On Monday, 128 golfers and supporters of Nativity gathered at Westmoor Country Club for our 23rd Annual Golf Outing presented by Stanek Family Dental. Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. Nativity Jesuit Academy is proud to be a Catholic, Jesuit school where the beauty and depth of Ignatian spirituality guides our path forward in special ways. As St. Ignatius sought to find God in all things, we believe at Nativity Jesuit Academy that every moment has the possibility to deeply shape a student's life and bring him or her closer to God. The Nativity Jesuit community shares their deepest condolences to the the Lovell family and the Marquette University community with the passing of President Michael Lovell. As part of the rich Catholic, Jesuit legacy in Milwaukee, we deeply admire all of the good that President Lovell did to enhance Marquette University, but to also make Milwaukee a better place. As we celebrate his remarkable life and impact, we give thanks for his thoughtful leadership and steadfast commitment to be a "man for others."

La comunidad jesuita de Nativity comparte su más sentido pésame a la familia Lovell y a la comunidad de Marquette University por el fallecimiento del presidente Michael Lovell. Como parte del gran legado católico y jesuita en Milwaukee, admiramos profundamente todo el bien que hizo el presidente Lovell para mejorar la Universidad de Marquette, pero también para hacer de Milwaukee un lugar mejor. Dear members of the Marquette community:

It is with deep sadness that we write to share the difficult news that Marquette University President Michael R. Lovell passed away today following a three-year battle with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.

Together, we pray for President Lovell’s family, especially his wife Amy, his children, and his friends, as well as for all members of our Marquette and Milwaukee communities, as we grieve this immeasurable loss.

President Lovell and Amy were in Rome with members of the Society of Jesus and the Board of Trustees on a Jesuit formation pilgrimage when President Lovell fell ill and was taken to a hospital in Rome.

President Lovell’s decade of leadership at Marquette was marked by a deep commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship, and community renewal and development — consistent with the university’s Catholic, Jesuit mission that animated him. An entrepreneur at heart, President Lovell pushed Marquette and Milwaukee to ask what could be rather than settling for the status quo. Throughout his presidency, he attended hundreds of campus events each year and continued to teach undergraduate students in his product realization class, saying that he gained great energy from his interactions with students, faculty and staff.

A fixture of the Milwaukee community, President Lovell served on multiple local boards and national higher ed consortiums, where his peers valued his collaborative spirit, humility and ability to advance complex ideas. Together, President Lovell and Amy were trailblazers in directly addressing our region’s mental health issues. His contributions to Marquette will be remembered forever, just as his loss echoes throughout our community.

Support and resources are available for the campus community through Campus Ministry, the Faber Center, the Counseling Center and the Employee Assistance Program, which is available 24/7. A campus prayer vigil is being planned and funeral arrangements will be shared in Marquette Today when they are available.

The days ahead will be full of heartbreak. In this time of grief and sadness, let us come together as a community linked by faith and love.

Prayer for Community Loss

God of Wisdom,
We are grieving beyond measure
and struggling to make sense of such a profound loss
for parents, friends, and the entire Marquette community.
We commend to you our hurt and unknowing,
trusting in your all-embracing love.

Bring us into the hope and light of your Son’s resurrection.
Help us to rely on you, as we support one another in these difficult days,

Pope Francis recently met with education delegates from Jesuit schools around the globe, offering his personal gratitude and reflection: "Jesuit education intends to invite its students to become agents of change and evangelization in their context. It is about ensuring that from a young age they learn to discover God present in others, especially in the poor and marginalized. This is true education: accompanying young people so that they discover in service to others and in academic rigor the construction of the common good. Young people are prepared and begin to change the mindset of an education only for 'my' personal success into the mentality of an education that leads them to discover the true fullness of life, when one uses one’s personal gifts and abilities in collaboration with others, for the construction of a more humane and fraternal society and world. And it was what Fr. Arrupe repeated to us often, insisting on 'educating people for others.'"

Before sending our incoming 8th graders to camp, they spend a day studying leadership and how to be a person for others. From their time at camp and when they return back to our Milwaukee campus, they have a special role at Nativity to be leaders and role models.

Nativity's President, Vanessa Solis recently completed Forward 48, Milwaukee's premier leadership development program. During this six week intensive program, Vanessa got the chance to learn from some of the region's most influential executives, engage in dialogue about the future of Milwaukee, network with top leaders across the city and bring the Nativity story further in the community.

Congratulations to our 6th/7th/8th grade Flag Football team on a hard fought win for the tournament championship. In a close game, these Lobos came out on top with a final score of 1-0. A special thank you to their coaches Mr. Hancock and Dario Camarena '13 for their encouragement and leadership. It has been an incredible year as Nativity Lobos brought home a trophy in 3 out of the 4 major sports they participated in. Go Lobos!

Felicitaciones a nuestro equipo de Flag Football de 6to/7mo/8vo grado por una dura victoria en el campeonato del torneo. En un partido reñido, estos Lobos se impusieron con un marcador final de 1-0. Our K4 students had their annual butterfly release in the courtyard. K4 students loved having caterpillars as their special classroom guests, including students reading to the caterpillars throughout the month!

On Friday, we had two special celebrations. In the morning our 2nd grade students had their first communion followed by a celebration with friends and family. In the afternoon, our first coed class graduated. This graduation welcomes the first female alumnae in Nativity's history! Such an incredible and historic day filled with celebration and faith. Congratulations to all students and families who celebrated on Friday!

Por la tarde, se graduó nuestra primera clase mixta.
