Acts Housing is thrilled to have hosted our first Act on Homeownership event in Beloit!

This event was all about connecting with our community and sharing how we can support families on their path to homeownership.

A huge thank you to our Acts team for their hard work - it paid off! We had an amazing turnout with 55 families attending, and 25 signed up to move forward with our program. We're excited to help them achieve their dream of homeownership!

Welcome Aboard Our Newest Leaders!
We're thrilled to announce the addition of Marvin Bynum to our Acts Housing Board of Directors!

Marvin brings a wealth of experience in real estate law and community leadership to the table. In just the last year, he's become a passionate advocate for our mission of Empowerment Through Homeownership.

As a shareholder at Godfrey & Kahn in Milwaukee, Marvin leverages his expertise to help others achieve their dreams. ️ He's also actively involved in organizations like Harbor District Inc. and Milwaukee College Prep, demonstrating his dedication to building stronger communities.

We're excited to have Marvin's guidance and support as we continue to create pathways to homeownership for families across Wisconsin.

Our Neighborhood Table is our annual signature event to celebrate the impact of Acts Housing with Acts Families and our community of supporters.

This family-friendly celebration is a night that will takeover The Deer District and leave you with a renewed sense of pride in our community.

There will be jams by DJ Bizzon, great food from Milwaukee food trucks, and activities for all ages.

Welcome Aboard, Vanaya Grice!
We're thrilled to announce Vanaya Grice as the newest member of our Board of Directors!

Vanaya's passion for building housing stability in Milwaukee led her to Acts Housing, and we're so grateful for her commitment to our mission.

She is Senior Director of Customer Success (Tech) at Northwestern Mutual, where she has been for 12 years in roles of increasing responsibility. She serves on the Board and as Fund Development Chair of PEARLS. She also has her own boutique hair braiding business and teaches hair braiding at Bradley Tech. Vanaya has her MBA from Cardinal Stritch University and is a member of TEMPO. Vanaya brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to our team.

We're excited to collaborate with Vanaya and work together towards our mission of Empowerment Through Homeownership!

We're hosting our very own Act On Homeownership event! Join us at the Act On Homeownership event on July 17th at Beloit Public Library!

This FREE event is your one-stop shop for first-time homebuyers. Get expert advice, explore financing options, and ask all your burning questions.

There will be two information sessions at this event. The first session is from 12:00pm - 1:00pm in Room 110. Session 2 is from 5:30pm - 6:30pm in Room 111.

Thousands of families achieved homeownership with Acts Housing's guidance. You can be next!

In June we hosted a special Tour of Homes that allowed interested individuals to learn more about Acts work in supporting families on their homeownership journey. The tour consists of two main stops:

A City of Milwaukee Tax Foreclosure: Supporters get a chance to walk through a distressed property and learn about the rehab process require to live in a livable home.

A rehabbed home: Participants visit a beautiful home rehabbed by one of Acts families.

Maria was kind enough to welcome everyone into her home and talk about her rehab journey. She made sure to include lots of art her daughter created throughout her new home.

On May 14th Deon Canon closed in the Roosevelt Grove area. Deon is a grad student and purchased his home for himself and his siblings.

Deon received $9,000 in seller concessions, and $15,000 in grants to aid in his down payment and closing costs. This helped Deon cross the finish line and become a first-time homeowner!

Help us congratulate Deon on securing a stable future for himself and his siblings!

Congratulations to Gabriel and Araceli Covarrubias on completing their home rehab project in just three months, beating the program timeline by half!

They enlisted the help of a general contractor, Gabriel's cousin, Francisco Covarrubias, who was able to complete all the necessary work and even some additional tasks within the budget. Congratulations to everyone involved in this achievement!

Before & After magic! ✨ This isn't your average home refresh - Alexi Watkins tackled a full-on rehab project on her first place with the help of Acts Rehab Coach Keven Weber! From working with contractors to finalizing the scope of work, Keven was there every step of the way. Swipe to see the incredible transformation - Alexi's hard work and Keven's guidance truly paid off!

This wasn't just a cosmetic refresh - we're talking foundation work, electrical, plumbing, heating, the whole shebang! Both the upstairs (where Alexi lives) and the downstairs rental unit got brand new bathrooms, kitchens, porches, and the garage got a major overhaul too. On top of that, the entire interior boasts new flooring, baseboards, trim, doors, cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, and light fixtures.

Congratulations to F'allan Bowman on buying her duplex!

F'allan has been working hard for the past three years with Acts Housing's Homebuyer coaching, and it's finally paid off! She's purchasing the duplex she currently rents from her parents, and the rent from the other unit will cover more than half of her mortgage payment. Talk about smart planning!

Check out this amazing transformation! Jose took on the challenge of rehabbing his duplex into a beautiful single-family home. Yesterday evening, our office located at 1003 Pleasant Street, Beloit, suffered damage due to severe weather conditions. We are relieved to report that there were no injuries sustained during this unfortunate event.

Acts Housing remains steadfast in its dedication to providing home-buying coaching services to our community. Ongoing coaching sessions and housing rehab processes for families will continue without interruption.

As we await more information and a timeline for building repairs, we are touched by the outpouring of support from the community. The swift response and on-site assistance from the City of Beloit, Wisconsin - Government and Beloit 200 have been invaluable during this time of transition. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to Irontek for generously offering temporary office space for our Beloit office team.

Together, with the continued support of our community partners and stakeholders, we remain resolute in our mission to empower families and strengthen communities through homeownership.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is hosting a community listening session this Saturday at the Cactus Club from 1pm-2:30pm. They hope to understand what Milwaukee residents between the ages of 18-25 year-old want them to report on.

Tyecha Pettigrew graduated from the Acts Housing Power Pack - Evolve Cohort- back in February. She participated in the year-long program that met every month to discuss topics like credit building, financial goal setting, and money management. Here's what Tyecha had to say about her experience:

"I think this is very beneficial to people, especially people of color. So please keep doing these programs as much as you can because people don't realize organizations like you are out there to help them. They don't have to do this by themselves. When they don't know they don't have the support or the resources then it's just a discouragement that I'm just not gonna do it. So the fact that you're out there, you know getting a word out like y'all are impacting people lives, and it's a great thing. So I am grateful to have been a part of it and just so happy that y'all could offer this for people. So, thank you."
