once again! Faculty member Mary Zellmer-Bruhn was awarded the "Most Influential Paper Published from 2016-2019" in the Conflict Management Division at the Academy of Management's Annual Meeting!

This award is given to articles published 5 years in the past that have made a significant contribution to research in the Conflict Management domain. Some indicators of influence on the field include: citation count, generative research and theory impact, wide use in doctoral seminars and more.

In their article Mary Zellmer-Bruhn and co-author Lingtao Yu introduce the concept of team mindfulness, defined as a shared belief among team members that their interactions are characterized by a sense of awareness to present events and the nonjudgemental processing of within-team experiences. Their research showed team mindfulness can:

* Reduce team conflicts
* Reduce the connection between task conflict and relationship conflict at the team level
* Prevent conflicts within a team from leading to negative behaviors towards individuals

To read more on their team mindfulness work visit here: https://hbr.org/2019/05/what-mindfulness-can-do-for-a-team

Cheers to our faculty who continue to innovate the field and contribute in impactful ways that seek to make work a better place.

Our faculty keep on shining at the Academy of Management annual meeting! Congratulations Professor John Kammeyer-Mueller for receiving the 2024 International Human Resource Management Scholarly Research Award in the Human Resources Division.

In their award-winning paper "Escaping the Rut - Bridging research on expatriate and organizational newcomer adjustment", Professor John, and co-authors Mihaela Dimitrova, Margaret Shaffer, and Marlene Gruber propose we "escape the rut" by looking at expatriate adjustment beyond the psychological state by drawing insights from the literature on organizational newcomer adjustment.

By integrating theoretical frameworks and empirical findings related to dynamic social and proactive development processes, they provide the basis for a new research framework that not only enhances the field of expatriate management but also fosters interdisciplinary collaboration between the two domains.

1) An examination of which job search methods predict job search success and how search changes over time.
2) Development of interventions to help job seekers find (good) jobs faster
3) Exposed discrimination during job search
4) Identified the role of socio-economic status in job search and re-employment
5) Identified how application of organizational behavior can contribute to macro-economic examinations of unemployment

Congratulations Jee Young Seo on passing your final dissertation defense!

Dr. Seo's dissertation topic was on how supervisors' daily expressions of agitation can reduce employee willingness to voice their concerns about how to improve the workplace or reduce errors.

We are thrilled to share that Jee Young Seo will be joining the NEOMA Business School faculty this fall in Rheims, France. Good luck and congratulations on this major achievement!

Research shows that managers spend upward 20% of their time managing conflict. Over the past 3 decades, WOrg Associate Professor, Pri Shah and co-authors Randall S. Peterson, Amanda J. Ferguson, and Stephen Jones studied thousands of team conflicts to understand what they look like, how they evolve over time, and their impact if not addressed effectively. Their recently published Harvard Business Review article names the four most common team conflicts and offer solutions on how to manage them. Check out the full article here! https://lnkd.in/d53bTEtS

Pri Shah's primary research areas are Social Networks, Teams and Decision-Making. Her areas of teaching expertise include Negotiations, Organizational Behavior, Teams and Social Networks. She currently teaches negotiation in the Carlson Executive Education, University of Minnesota and MBA programs. Professor Shah holds an undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biology from the University of Rochester, a Masters and PhD in Organizational Behavior from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management.

Labor disputes gain visibility across Twin Cities metro 03/11/2024

Could we be near the beginning of an organized labor rebound? In the Twin Cities, we have seen recent labor activism from groups in health care, public works, and education. Professor John Budd was interviewed by KSTP to discuss these current labor trends and how they compare to the past. You can watch his interview or read about it in the link.

Labor disputes gain visibility across Twin Cities metro There’s been a surge in labor activism in the metro, with union members at odds with their employers. From education to health care and public works, the lack of agreement has led to protests, pickets and demonstrations.
