Coach Spotlight: Mark Mercado!
Mark is not just a Level 2 Coach, but he is also a Grandfather and his grandkids are what keeps him coming back to this program. For over 30 years Mark has coached a variety of sports, but has landed on golf not just because he loves it, but because his 3 grandchildren also enjoy it.
Not only has Coach Mark taken time out of his schedule to go to multiple coach trainings, but he does all of his coaching duties out of the goodness of his heart. Mark is one of our small group of volunteers. Coach Kayla and Coach Sarah have nothing, but good things to say about Coach Mark, and they “wished the First Tee program had a million people like him.”
At the beginning of August, Alumna and Coach, Sarah Ramsdell had the opportunity to attend First Tee Leadership Summit as an Alumni Chaperone. Here she had the opportunity to share First Tee experience and golf Knowledge with 20 current First Tee Participants.
Way to go Coach Sarah!
This at First Tee, we encourage you to FAIL - At First Tee, we see failure as a First Attempt In Learning. Embracing failure builds resilience and offers opportunities to grow through challenges and discover inner strength from setbacks . 🌟

Our Story
In early 2001, the nonprofit Del Rio C.C. Foundation began extensive study of The First Tee in association with the City of Modesto. In October of 2003 after two years of planning and community networking, First Tee Central Valley was approved by First Tee Headquarters and became administered by the Del Rio C.C. Foundation non-profit organization. In partnership with the City of Modesto, First Tee of Central Valley gained steady golf course access. Through the collaborative efforts of many other county youth service organizations, First Tee of Central Valley now offers outreach programming each year at DRIVE sites throughout Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Mariposa and Merced counties. Regularly scheduled clinics are now held in Modesto and Ceres. The mission of Del Rio CC Foundation d.b.a First Tee Central Valley:
“To positively impact the lives of Central Valley area youth by providing educational programs that ensure character development, healthy choices and the mastery of life skills through the instruction in the game of golf.”
The D.R.C.C. Foundation Board meets frequently to administer, guide and plan for the future of First Tee Central Valley as organization within First Tee network of over 150 chapters worldwide. Our current active board members and staff are:
