There has been no significant rainfall this week in Walton County. Grasses and underbrush are very dry and highly flammable. Please be careful with any outdoor grilling, or discarded smoking materials.

It's been over a week since the middle and lower parts of our state saw any actual wetting rain (popup showers don't count), and there is none in the forecast. Add to that elevated winds expected over the next several days, and conditions could be ripe for . Please be aware of current conditions, and use caution with any outdoor activities that could cause a spark.

Walton County Fire Rescue A-Shift recently conducted forcible entry, ventilation, and evacuation training at a donated structure. The structure was donated by a citizen in the Youth community. The building was scheduled for demolition, but the property owner allowed the fire department to utilize the building for fire training. Our personnel train constantly to be prepared in the event of an emergency. We are thankful to the property owner for allowing us to use the building for this valuable training opportunity.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, Molly Masselli, was given the Citizen Life Safety Award at the Monroe City Council meeting. On March 15, 2023, Mollie saved the life of someone who had a severe laceration to the leg and was bleeding heavily from the wound. Mollie created a modified tourniquet, and packed the wound with gauze controlling the blood loss from the injury. Medical personnel attribute the saving of the victims limb and his life, to Mollie’s heroic actions. Mollie was taught these bleeding control measures, through the Stop the Bleed class that was taught at The Bridge Of Georgia therapy center. Stop the Bleed is taught in cooperation with firefighters and law enforcement officers from Monroe Police Department, Monroe Fire Department, and Walton County Fire Rescue. Congratulations Molly!
