The holidays while joyous and exciting bring about the opportunity for potential scams. We have had several reports of incidents involving phone calls to customers by someone claiming to be an employee of the City of Monroe informing them to pay their utility bills or they will have their services disconnected. Keep in mind that no City of Monroe employee will call you asking for payment and warning that utilities will be cut off if payment is not made.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE PAYMENT INFORMATION over the phone if this happens to you!

All payments should be made in person, through the mail, by using the kiosk in our drive thru area, or by phone at 1 (833) 441-1751.

Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served, and for one day (and every day) we stand united in respect for our veterans. Together, we celebrate and honor our veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and complete willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

This holiday started as a day to reflect upon the heroism of those who died in our country's service and was originally called Armistice Day. November 11th was chosen because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. It was formally recognized on the “11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month” in 1918. Then, in 1954 the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans in all wars.

Today we continue to celebrate the day as Veterans Day, still recognizing the original tie with November 11, 1918. That means Veterans Day is on the same day every year, regardless of which day of the week it falls.

Service should return to normal no later than 7am. Anyone experiencing an outage after this time should contact our customer service call center at 770-267-3429.

10/24/2023

The City of Monroe will begin regular routes of roadside leaf collection on Monday, November 6th with those routes ending around January 31st. The route schedule will follow the current residential trash collection schedule…so if you have trash collection on a Monday, the planned route for leaf collection will also be on a Monday, and so on. Keep in mind, during the start of leaf collection and as leaves fall more heavily this schedule may see some expected delays, but we will get to your area as soon as possible on the route schedule. We will have our leaf vacuum truck and leaf vacuum trailer running routes this season, along with our street sweeper to keep curbs and gutters clean throughout the season. Keep in mind, this process works as fluidly as both the weather and equipment operability allow!

An important note to help us, and to help your neighbors...we ask that residents place their leaves very near the edge of the roadside but not in the travel lane, in or near drainage ditches, inlets, or any other utility pedestals or meter boxes. Also, keep from placing other debris in with the collection piles of leaves as this may cause damage to equipment upon collection. Following these simple guidelines for the placement of collection piles will drastically assist our crews in the collection process and help to eliminate the amount of debris that reaches our streets and storm drainage systems!

If you have any questions, please reach out to our Public Works department at (770) 267-6933.

NOTICE: There will be a traffic pattern change at the intersection of South Madison Avenue and Vine Street in the City of Monroe. Effective Monday, October 9, 2023, this intersection will become a FOUR-WAY STOP intersection. The goal of this change is to reduce the rate of accidents that occur at this intersection due to the acute angle and resulting line of sight issues from Vine St.

For further reference, this intersection is just east of S. Broad St. (Highway 11) and adjacent to the Walton County Senior Citizens Center, Walton County Health Department, Walton County Public Works, Walton County Animal Control, and the Walton County Sheriff’s Office and Jail Complex.
