The Development Authority of Walton County is thrilled to have hosted educators from across the county for an immersive week-long program designed to bridge the gap between education and industry through our Walton Works Educator Externship. This is our sixth year hosting the experience.

Thank you, Georgia Department of Education, for inviting our workforce development director Dessa Morris to share about Walton Works, externships, interactive industry days, and the many ways our region works together to increase opportunities.

It was an honor and a privilege to talk about workforce development with Dessa Morris from Walton Works, Dr. Wood from Sims Academy of Innovation and Technology, Laura Boswell at the STEM/STEAM Conference in Athens.

Earlier this month, the Walton County Government Board of Commissioners proclaimed October 6 - 13th as Manufacturing Appreciation Week. We celebrated by showing our appreciation to employees at three of the TOP 5 manufacturers in Monroe with treats from Mookie Moo's Philadelphia Water Ice. Monroe Mayor John Howard, Walton County Chairman David Thompson, and the Development Authority's Shane Short and Dessa Morris expressed appreciation for the these companies bring to our community and the many ways they strengthen our county. A Walton County School District - GA professional working with a Social Circle City Schools professional for the benefit of our students and our entire community. The Anne Raymond Distinguished Service Award honors a GSPRA member for his or her commitment and dedication to the organization and the profession. Typically, this member has exceeded the call to support GSPRA and GSPRAns. The award honors a GSPRA founder, "The Mother of GSPRA.”

Congratulations to GSPRA's 2023 Anne Raymond Distinguished Service Award from the Walton County School District, Callen Moore!

Callen has worked in school communications for 10 years and has been a member of GSPRA for eight years. In addition to mentoring fellow GSPRA members, she has served as GSPRA President, President-Elect, Immediate Past President and Vice President of Communications. In addition, she has led and supported the planning of four GSPRA conferences.

In her nomination, Social Circle City School's Kari Willis said, β€œAs the new Communications Manager for our district, Callen has been a tremendous source of advice, inspiration, and knowledge. She has been kind to assist me in tough and unexpected circumstances that would have otherwise been difficult to navigate, and her knowledge and experience in communications have been invaluable.

She not only helps me, but her unrelenting encouragement gives me the confidence to know that I am serving my district well. Callen has made herself available to me at all times, whether it was a brief text or a late-night phone call to further discuss something we've already talked about. Her willingness to invest in me is truly appreciated.

I truly believe that Callen's support has been the impetus behind my success thus far. She is an exceptionally deserving candidate because of her commitment to helping others master the art of effective communication!"

Social Circle High School's Class of 2023 reported a remarkable overall four-year graduation rate, according to data released from the Georgia Department of Education. At 95.3%, the SCHS graduation rate was well above the state average of 84.4%!

With its impressive rate, Social Circle City Schools joins the top 22% of school districts statewide. Way to go, Class of '23!
