We want to stress the importance of evaluating the palate and its relationship to function. One of the jobs of the tongue is to be able to move freely enough to influence palate development. If the tongue cannot press against all part of the palate with, more slightly more pressure on the front and middle aspects, not only will this inhibit proper nursing mechanics, but can impeded normal palate development.

“The past decade has been fraught with controversy surrounding infant tongue-tie surgery (“tongue-tie” or “tethered oral tissue”). It can be easy to assume that tethered oral tissue is causing the feeding problem— and that could be! But consider what other structures might be causing the problem. In clinical practice, I’ve seen tongue, head, or neck adaptations that affect feeding function, with or without a tongue-tie.

You may be wondering, how can the pediatric chiropractor help? The chiropractor shouldn’t diagnose a tongue-tie. But they can do much to help the baby with feeding dysfunction. They can also help before and after a tongue-tie surgery (if surgery is needed). The chiropractor might also be able to help your baby avoid a tongue-tie surgery altogether. If you suspect your child has a tongue-tie, here are four points to consider.”

We are so excited to finally share and finally have confirmation, we are moving!! Due to unforeseen circumstances with our space changing management, we have found a great solution with no stairs and no fighting for parking spots! It is only 2.5 miles from our current office. We are so grateful for our time shared with headquarters and wish them all success with their new space-go check it out!
Monday will be our official start date and I will have an email out this morning for current and past patients 🫶🏼🤩 God is so good in all that he provides and we are excited for this new quiet, safe and clean space to continue to serve families at the highest degree.

We understand how frustrating life can be with a newborn and even more if there is feeding, latching, gas, constipation and more. Tongue Ties are a very buzz worthy condition these days and luckily we have had almost 9 years of experience in helping babies work through this condition with specific chiropractic care. Getting a revision or a quick snip doesn’t always help the problems. The fascia of the tongue has attachments that travel all the way to the bottom of the foot! So if we only address a small part of the problem, the problem will persist. From a chiropractic perspective we look at the entire person and address where the structure is causing function to be less than optimal.
Over the years we’ve seen parents who have had multiple revisions, variety of providers and even other chiropractors. It wasn’t until they got under our care and had cranial chiropractic adjustments and craniosacral therapy that parents began to notice positive changes. Sometimes in these cases they also needed consults with some of our trusted providers. And that my friends is why they say it takes a village.
I’ll be honest, leaving my last village to come here was scary and sad. However God is so good and this village he is cultivating in middle TN is GOLD! We are serving up high quality care for the good of all families and I gotta say I’m beyond grateful to be here for it!

Tongue tie is a major buzz word today. If a baby is struggling with feeding, one of the first things muttered is “does she have a tongue tie?” 😅

But there’s more to the equation than just how is the tongue moving. Let’s talk about the other considerations, the hard palate. 🤔

The palate is made up of 4 bones and one more supports the whole thing from the back. 😮

Looking at the picture, The 4 bones are the two maxilla (green) and the two palatine (peach). The final one is the sphenoid (yellow). 🧐

Those first four have some serious effects on the quality of a baby’s latch. If any of those four bones are a bit askew or not moving properly, there will be a direct effect on how well baby can latch onto momma’s breast, tongue tie present or not. 😬🍼

With palate issues, this can cause a high and narrow palate, a hypersensitive gag reflex, clicking, gulping of air resulting in increased gas and spitting up, clamping down and biting, pulling off the breast and screaming, and a tense and uncomfortable latch for both mom and baby! 😣🤱

And guess where the nerves that feed the tongue come from? Right through that yellow sphenoid bone. So if that is part of this equation, which it usually is, that will affect the ability of the baby to be able to control their tongue as well! 😯👶

So many little ones are brought into our office who have had tongue ties cut and are still struggling to latch. Mom will report that often the tie revision didn’t help their baby’s latch at all! 😕

Now, don’t get me wrong. Tongue tie revisions are needed at times, but whether the decision is made to revise or not, or if the baby doesn’t have a tie and is still struggling, the first step should be the least invasive: the function of the palate and the nerves that feed the mechanisms of a baby’s latch. 💪🏼

And what if you already have had the revision done? That’s even more reason to ensure the palate and nervous system are functioning at its optimum while baby heals from the procedure and begins to learn how to use their tongue in a new way. 🩺💡
