Today’s Father’s Day Mug workshop was so much fun! I’m always amazed at the pure creativity of kids. Such cool, creative creations! Thank you for hosting us - you are the best!

Mugs in process for the June 8th Father’s Day Mug Painting Workshop at Juniper Station - all ages welcome! Link in bio with the option of adding another mug.
Mugs will receive handles after trimming and then bisque fired for class. I will provide underglazes so kids and adults can decorate their mug for dad, stepdad or grandpa.
After class I will apply a clear glaze and fire for a sturdy, long-lasting gift for dad.
Can’t wait to see you there!

My new favorite spring color is this ochre. I love the soft and supple white matte exterior and the contrasting color and gloss interior. More to come from this combo! Might throw in some aqua interiors too.

Rainy day work vibes. For those of you who don’t know me personally, pottery is not my full time job. I work for a well known winery, managing their sponsorships and donations.
On rainy days like today, I put extra effort into my desk mood. The flowers I arranged last night to showcase one way to use my new pedestal bowls. I have my Equator Coffee sitting in my new mug design, an essential every day! And a Flamingo Estate candle supplying a warm glow and filling the room with rich, earthy smells. Set for success!

I don’t like using a lot of color in my ceramics, but this combo stuck. A lot more steps than a basic glaze.
1. Wedge clay, throw cup form.
2. Dry to leather-hard, trim foot.
3. Make and attach handles.
4. Slowly dry completely, then bisque fire in the kiln.
5. Wax the bottom foot and tape the pattern.
6. Dip into white glaze. Dry.
7. Paint wax-resist over the outside. Dry and remove tape.
8. Dip into blue glaze. Dry.
9. Dip once more into white glaze. Dry.
10. Clean up bottoms and fire in kiln.
11. Sand foot to smooth and wash.

These will be available during Napa Art Walk this weekend at Deuces Market downtown Napa!

How am I supposed to focus with this cuteness roaming around the studio?!

Some of these mini vases in production. This photo shows the clay in leather hard stage. I will let this dry completely before bisque firing it. Not sure what color glaze I’ll use yet.

My little space heater does the trick for my evening sessions. Production has slowed as the evenings have been filled with Christmas preparations but I have big plans for 2024!

After glaze issues and having to completely strip all the mugs and reglaze, they are done! Just in time for the last day of school before a long winter break.
I know there is a lot to learn through failure, which I certainly did on this project. Always learning, always room for growth in the studio and beyond.

Nothing like a warm, frothy cappuccino in a handmade mug on a cold winter morning ☕️

The kiln gods were good to me! After experiencing terrible clay bloating and glaze issues with this newly formulated clay, I lowered to cone 5 and added a 5 minute hold and… no bloating and no pinholes in the glaze!
These experimental pieces were so much fun and I can’t wait to make more.

Made some mugs to gift to my son’s brand new charter school. This picture shows still damp clay after adding the logo and handles. These will slowly dry under plastic to ensure the handles don’t crack where attached.

The staff at Mayacamas Charter School has worked so hard to open the doors this year, and they deserve so much more than a mug to be honest!

Working hard on consistency and function within my designs. Do they line up, do the feet sit nicely when stacked, is there equal space between rims when stacked.
It takes a lot of planning, measuring and notes to make sure all these things align. There’s great satisfaction when I stack them all up and I know it was worth the extra care and time.

Commissioned project is going well. Espresso, latte and cappuccino mugs… just like varietal glasses for wine, your mug matters too ☕️

This locally sourced and produced clay is called Sierra Speckle. The speckles show through the glaze whether clear or opaque. While it’s not ideal for all designs, I think it’s beautiful and special and keeping the glaze simple allows the beauty of the earth to shine through.

Staying busy with some large commission orders when I’m not working my full time job, taking care of kiddos and a house.

It’s always starts with a simple lump of clay. A lump of clay that holds endless possibilities. Transform it into something functional, something beautiful, something simple, something unique. Endless.

Finding some great reading gems at this week, and some of the best espresso in town for an afternoon pick me up!

Succulent flowers are beautifully bizarre.

I’ve been reflecting a lot on my time in Bali since I got back. So many things to be grateful for. Meeting and having the privilege of absorbing everything she taught us is something I’ll carry with me forever in my pursuit of finding my art. She’s also just a badass person who I admire so much beyond her skills as an artist. I hope our paths cross against another or if you’re ever in California :)

Thanks to and her incredible ability to teach, I have the courage to practice bigger pots! I’ve never been so inspired and now it’s a matter of catching up to the many ideas floating around in my head. 😊
