Napa County afterschool students would like to remind all parents to refrain from idling your vehicle where students are gathered. Here are a few suggestions that can have a big impact in improving air quality for all:
While waiting for your child at school, turn your vehicle off to keep Bay Area lungs healthy.

Be Idle Free By Turning Your Key While waiting for your child at school, turn your vehicle off to keep Bay Area lungs healthy.
The Napa County Office of Education, Prevention Health and Wellness team was able to attend the Aldea Community Fair. Community members received information about Idle Free, Alcohol and To***co Prevention, as well as Foster and Homeless services. Prevention never stopped during COVID but it sure is exciting to resume in-person education.
Students in the NCOE after-school programs have been learning about the other harmful effects of leaving a vehicle engine running when it is parked. To get involved and pledge to be idle-free: https://forms.gle/9bA9N5WBr7Deiv958
Kickstart the week with a pledge to save gas, save money and spare the air in Napa County. This can all be done by simply turning off your car engine if sitting and waiting for longer than 30 seconds. Idling often happens when waiting to pick someone up, sitting at a drive-through or car-wash, checking email and voicemail in a parked vehicle, and waiting longer than necessary to warm up your vehicle before driving.

We interrupt your news feed scrolling to thank all of the wonderful Napa County Safe Routes volunteers who helped to educate engage, encourage, and educate students. These pictures are from a couple years back and we have had so many program volunteers since. Whether it was 30 minutes or a years time, we want to thank everyone who has made so many things possible such as bike rodeos, bike and pedestrian safety classes, Walk and Roll to School Day, school site surveys, and so much more.
Thank you, volunteers!

An important reminder from Spare the Air, Bay Area. When waiting in your car to pick up students, turn the key and be idle free.
For more information, visit the EPA website at: https://www.epa.gov/dera/school-bus-idle-reduction
Asthma affects one in ten kids in the Bay Area. Idle-free zones at schools help create healthier air quality for students. While waiting in a pick-up line, remember to turn your vehicle off when possible. 🏫
