There’s something about the way the light hits the vineyard at this altitude—it’s like Mother Nature’s way of saying, ‘You’ve earned this one.’”🍇🌅

Here’s a little something special from the rugged slopes of Mount Veeder—our 2021 Amentet Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our farmer Phil Coturri, donning his grateful dead t-shirt, straw hat, and Birkenstocks, has the fruit from this vineyard at 1700’, proving they’re tough as nails, delivering deep, concentrated flavors that scream “Mount Veeder” from the first sip.

This wine is all about balance—think dark floral notes, graphite, a touch of forest floor, and rich, dark cassis that explodes on the palate. If you’re into blind tastings, this one’s easy to spot. It’s got that unmistakable mountain soul.

Though we are known as a cabernet house here at Robert Craig Winery, our single vineyard Chardonnay exemplifies our guiding philosophies as a producer: farming for intensity, minimal intervention in the winery, structure, and longevity. Our Gap’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay is without peer when it comes to vineyard site display in the finished wine. We are able to obtain enough fruit each year to produce a scant 250 cases of this linear, racy, mineral-laden Chardonnay from the top of the Petaluma Gap.

The 2023 vintage on the Sonoma Coast was a cool one for the record books. We finished pressing our Howell Mountain Cabernet off in the winery after Thanksgiving, and coastal Chardonnay was likewise late to develop.

Meticulous farming was key to avoiding problems from the cool damp spring and early summer. Jason, Yordanos and Carley worked with care on the wine to allow the explosive mineral and citrus components to rise to the top from the fossilized marine life that comprises the vineyard soils. A kiss of new French oak following fermentation in neutral barrels helped preserve complexity and nuance in the winery. Our Chardonnay, year in and year out, is one of the few California white wines to display such a stony personality.

We’ve been drinking a great deal of the 2014 in the office lately, and it’s a joy to have such a cellar worthy white in our quiver here.

Once again, the production is tiny and the price has remained the same for another year, so don’t miss your opportunity to acquire one of California’s most serious white wines.

What a time of year at Robert Craig Winery! In late Spring, we released two wines that are perfect companions to fresh, seasonal produce and proteins, whether simply prepared or grilled outdoors. The first release, our 2023 La Fleur Rosé Grenache, sold out in just a few days.

The second release, happening now, is our young vine, baby brother to our estate Howell Mountain Cabernet. The 2022 Howell Mountain Cuvée (96% Cabernet Sauvignon) is officially released to our club and mailing list, so don’t hesitate, as it is almost halfway to sold out in a single day. It’s a deep, supple, textured Bordeaux blend that shows off its Howell Mountain pedigree. Of course, the price is meant to encourage stocking up.

Cheers to summer evenings with family and friends. The highest quality doesn’t always require breaking the bank.

Our Head Winemaker, Jason Price, recently returned to his roots in Maryland as the keynote speaker at the American Chemical Society’s awards ceremony at the University of Notre Dame Maryland. Sharing the profound impact of chemistry on winemaking, Jason inspired students to explore the unexpected paths their degrees can lead them.
