ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Planet Keepers and Climate Change
Open to students in Grades 3, 4 & 5
Program meets during Spring Break, April 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2015.

Student scientists will learn the principles of environmental science at the Environmental Study Center. What is a carbon footprint? What is built-in obsolescence? How can we conserve our resources? How do our purchases affect the environment? Click here for more information and to apply.

Seed to Table
Open to students in Grades 3, 4 & 5
Program meets Saturdays, March 28, May 2 and 23, June 13 and 20, 2015.

Campers will work with Queens Botanical Garden scientists and Environmental Study Center staff to plant and care for a garden, harvest the crops and prepare healthy and delicious foods with their bounty as they explore design elements that are critical to a garden’s success. This Saturday camp will engage students in selecting appropriate species for the garden as well as planting, maintaining and planning for its future. Click here for more information and to apply.

Weapons of the Wild
Open to students in Grades 3, 4 & 5
Program meets Saturdays, May 2, 9, 16 and 23, 2015.

Poison, armor, camouflage, oh my! Come to the Environmental Study Center to discover how organisms defend themselves within their environment through hands-on learning and animal encounters at ESC. This program includes a trip to Prospect Park Zoo where student scientists will work with an animal behavior specialist. Click here for more information and to apply.


MIDDLE SCHOOL
Food without a Footprint: Cooking with a Conscience
Open to students in Grades 6, 7 & 8
Program meets during Spring Break, April 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2015.

Student scientists will explore the sustainability and carbon footprint of the food we eat. Come to the Environmental Study Center to practice your kitchen skills while cooking your way through various food groups. Click here for more information and to apply.

Reduce, Reuse, Upcycle!
Open to students in Grades 6, 7 & 8
Program meets during Spring Break, April 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2015.

Student scientists will be introduced to the concept of upcycling. Instead of discarding everyday material, unique and thoughtful items will be created. Throughout the duration of this program at the Environmental Study Center, student upcyclers will create a variety of items to take home. DNA Science Camp
Open to students in grades 9, 10, 11 & 12
Program meets during Mid-Winter Recess, Monday, February 16 -Friday, February 20, 2015.

Are you interested in molecular genetics and modern biotechnology? Do you wish you had more time in the lab at school? Do you want to learn more about DNA? Apply now to attend DNA Science Camp during Mid-winter Recess at the Harlem DNA Lab. DNA Science Camp provides extensive lab experience with the basic techniques of recombinant DNA, including DNA restriction and ligation, bacterial transformation and plasmid isolation.
