***SAD NEWS***
To the Lincoln Family:
I have very sad news that
Miss Catherine “Cathy” Reilly passed away on July 28, 2024. Cathy was a Math teacher and she also became Lincoln’s Assistant Principal Organization (approximate years at Lincoln…1995-2016 ).

If you write a comment, please include the year(s) that Cathy was your teacher or your years at Lincoln.

On a Personal Note:
Although I knew that Cathy wasn’t well, I must admit that this sad news took my breath away. Cathy was always nice and helpful to me, especially in her position as Lincoln’s Assistant Principal Organization, and I always appreciated her kindness.
My sincere condolences to Cathy’s sister Eileen and to her family and friends. May Cathy Rest In Peace.😇🥲❤️

‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ and ‘Roots’ star Louis Gossett Jr. dead at 87 03/29/2024

***Sad News***
The Lincoln Family has lost one of its most famous members. Louis Gossett Jr. has died at the age of 87. Louis Gossett Jr. graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1954. While at Lincoln, he was on the Boys’ Basketball Team and was also Senior Class President. Lou also found his love for theater while at Lincoln. After graduating high school, he attended New York University. Although he was offered the opportunity to play varsity basketball at NYU, he declined the basketball athletic scholarship to concentrate on theater.
RIP Louis Gossett Jr.😟🥲🎭

Happy Birthday #69 (born March 25, 1955) to Lincoln’s own Lee Mazzilli, who was a 1973 first round draft pick of the NY Mets. Lee played for 14 seasons in Major League Baseball. He played for a few teams besides the Mets, including the Yankees. He was also a coach for the Yankees.
***Thanks to Warren Prosky for telling me about Lee’s Birthday.***

1. For those who remember
my “Catch the Lincoln Spirit” sign that was on a very large bulletin board right off of the First Floor Center Hallway! ***Seeing the part of the sign in the photo brought back MANY memories!
2. The Lincoln pennant that I sold for many years.

LENORE BRAVERMAN Obituary (2024) - New York, NY - New York Times 01/21/2024

A few days ago I posted that
Mrs. Lenore Braverman had passed. Lenore was an English teacher at Lincoln from 1985-1992. Before Lincoln, I believe she taught at Shellbank JHS…across the street from Sheepshead Bay HS.
Jamel Thomas just sent her obituary to me and I wanted to share it with members of the Lincoln family.

***SAD NEWS***
To the Lincoln Family:
I received a very sad message yesterday that Mrs. Sheila Kaye, a member of Lincoln’s Staff (approx. 1981-1999/2000), passed away on Jan. 15, 2024. Sheila worked in the school’s “Business Office,” taking care of all of the financial records (for many years before the use of computers). Most students did not meet Mrs. Kaye, but she was still an important person at Lincoln. Every school bank deposit/withdrawal, etc. went through that office.

On a Personal Note:
Sheila Kaye was always nice to me and I always appreciated her kindness. It was my pleasure to have worked with Sheila for all her years in the “Business Office.”
I learned so much from her about the school’s financial records, which made my jobs as the SING/InterSING Coordinator…11 years, the Coordinator of Student Activities…24 years (COSA), the Yearbook Advisor…27 years, the Senior Class Advisor…3-4 years so much easier. I would have been lost if not for Sheila’s ability and Mr. Larry Regenbogen’s leadership as the person in charge.
My sincere condolences to Sheila’s family…Her son Scott (Class of ‘81) and her daughter Melissa (Class of ‘84)…and friends. May Sheila Rest In Peace.😇🥲❤️

***SAD NEWS***
To the Lincoln family:
I received a very sad message yesterday, but because it was the holiday I decided to wait until today to write this post. Miss Irma Weiss, English teacher and Assistant Principal English at Lincoln for many years (1973/4-1985/6), passed away on December 11, 2023 at the age of 80. It is my understanding that after Irma left Lincoln she continued her career as the AP English at the Bronx High School of Science.
***I don’t have any other information, but you can look at Irma’s obituary at: www.dignitymemorial.com

If you write a comment, please include the year(s) that Irma was your teacher or your years at Lincoln.

On a Personal Note:
I must admit that this sad news took my breath away. Irma was always nice and helpful to me and for a few terms was my AP when I taught English classes.

To all members of the
Lincoln Family:
[Please share this with other Lincoln Alumni who are and aren't on Facebook!]
As you know I had to cancel the Annual Alumni Homecoming Reunion/Open House once we were faced with the Pandemic in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Unfortunately, since many people have still been dealing with post Pandemic issues in 2022-2023, I’m sorry but I have not planned a Homecoming for May 2023. This isn’t an event that can be thrown together at the last minute and I felt that I needed to remain cautious.❤️💜
Take care and stay safe,
Fred Newman, President of the Abraham Lincoln HS Alumni Association (Brooklyn, NY)
