Roses - Rosie the Riveter™ Rosie the Riveter pays tribute to the women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II. Did you know that today is Rosie the Riveter Day? We wanted to highlight Avenger Field’s very own Rosie the Riveter, Jessie Lou Monroe McReynolds. She was one of two female mechanics at Avenger Field when the WASP were there. Jessie Lou, grew up and lived in Nolan County, the location of Avenger Field, her whole life. Growing up on a farm, she dreamed of a world where she didn’t have to pick cotton. When she was older she moved to Sweetwater and worked at the hospital. She didn’t enjoy changing bedpans and heard that Avenger Field was looking for workers. She started taking night classes for mechanics, and after classes she started working at Avenger Field. This was the perfect job for her and she loved working on the planes. She worked on BT-13 and BT-15.
In 2017, the Museum received a BT-13 and she saw the plane on the day it came in. She walked up to it, named the plane, and put her hand on the cowling. The crew that rebuilt the plane came outside and were amazed by the knowledge she remembered. She was 96 years old at the time.
RIP Betty White. Gone but not forgotten. Not only was she an amazing person, she also served during WWII as a member of the American Women's Voluntary Services.
A true legend on and off the screen. 🇺🇸
We are sadden of the loss of a good friend, Auston O'Neill Jr. Some of you may have met Auston during the Spirit of 45 express bus tour in 2015. Since then they have logged over 50,000 miles crossing the nation promoting National Spirit of '45 Day. Thank you Auston for your tireless efforts.
Auston passed away on Nov 23rd after a long fight with cancer.
Here is what his wife Bonnie O'Neill beautifully wrote:
November 23, 2021, at 9:45 AM EST Minister Auston O’Neill Jr., also known as The National Bugler for Spirit of 45 went home to be with his Heavenly Father. While his loss is felt deeply, his family would like to thank everyone that has lifted him up in thoughts and prayers through these last months. We grieve the loss of Auston who lived his life so courageously. Bold in his faith and unashamed to live for Jesus. He spoke for Christ and lived a life of living sacrifice for his Heavenly father. A loving and devoted husband, amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a gifted, talented musician, and worshiper for his Lord. He was a faithful friend and a man that brought light, life, and joy to all those around him. He cared deeply for everyone he met.
Please continue to keep his family in your prayers as they move into this difficult season of their lives. Thank you all for the love you showed to Auston. For all the special moments and memories, you provided. We are thankful. As you know his favorite saying was, “I am blessed, highly favored, and deeply loved, and that he was! He will be missed tremendously.
We will have a celebration of life on December 18th, 2021, at Word of Grace Church (13832 Redskin Dr., Herndon VA 20171.) 80 years ago today: Infamy.
It was among history's most pivotal events, the surprise attack that roused the United States from its slumber.
Never again would we ignore the dangers lurking outside our border.
2,403 Americans died that day.
Honor them today.
This week, make it your mission to honor at least one veteran.

On August 14, 1945, President Truman received official word of Japan's unconditional surrender and WWII was over. Servicemen who were poised to go to the invasion of Japan were elated that they no longer had to fight a battle that would have taken an untold number of lives. Joyful celebrations broke out in the streets all over America and in Europe while many mourned the lives of loved ones who were lost. This year on August 14, 2021, we honor all the service men and women who fought on the battlefield as well as the 6 million who supported them in every way on the home front. Their service, self sacrifice and commitment to their country was unparalleled and we will always honor the extraordinary legacy of the greatest generation. Keep the Spirit of '45 ALIVE!
