“During a break at the ISF, I found Caroline Maingi, a founding member of , chatting with delegates. Caroline shared with us the story of WYA’s beginnings. Despite criticism—even borderline hostility—from opponents, Anna, Caroline, and the rest of the team persevered.
As she spoke, ISF participants from around the room came to listen to her. It’s amazing that we are sharing the same mission from 25 years ago. While it was a short moment amidst the week’s intensity, I believe it encapsulates the spirit of the International Solidarity Forum.
In a world overtaken by totalitarian ideologies seeking to undermine the truth and attack the dignity of the person, there is hope. Advocacy requires perseverance and a fearless confidence in the truth. While it is not easy, we aren’t alone in this struggle; a fact reinforced by the experience of meeting impressive young people worldwide dedicated to the WYA mission.”
We are thankful for our delegates who think critically, engage intentionally, and are dedicated to upholding human dignity in every sphere.
One of the unexpected wins of 2020’s pandemic was the 300% increase in WYA members studying the Certified Training Program.
The demand was so high that we developed a training program for members to teach the CTP to others.
In 2021, 671 members completed the CTP and applied its teachings around the world.

The countdown to this year’s International Summer School on Bioethics and Human Rights is on!
This is our 4th bioethics summer school in Croatia, and we can’t wait to make new memories with amazing WYA members from around the world 🌎
Ashley played a crucial role in expanding regional training to Georgia and has been actively involved with WYA since attending a summer camp years ago. She initiated a Club and taught the CTP at her school, resulting in certification for herself and her classmates. This implementation has paved the way for potential integration of the CTP into the school’s curriculum, with some certified members sponsored to attend the ISF.

Do I have human dignity, even if I did something wrong?
Can someone take my dignity away from me (through abuse, violence, racism)?
If I break the law, do I lose my dignity?
Do people of one profession have more dignity than people of another?
Does my intelligence, personality, or talent impact my human dignity?
We’ve heard questions like these from several Human Dignity Curriculum students. We are overjoyed to answer each one with the resounding truth: We are all equal in dignity. No person or action can take away your dignity.
In 2003, WYA members from Italy designed our logo. Inspired by the Matisse painting “La Danse,” our logo represents members of the World Youth Alliance—from all parts of the world—working in tandem to defend the dignity of each human person.

“This year’s ISF was intellectually rewarding but also remarkably inspiring. I learned so much and we quickly became a big family. The last day of the ISF was the hardest part, but now I have friends around the globe—I think that’s pretty awesome.”

“The HDC is hope,” said Rocio Valdez, an HDC coordinator, who began teaching the curriculum to students in rural Paraguay, during the COVID pandemic.
“I think it’s important to teach kids that life is worth it and that their dignity is a given, regardless of the situations they find themselves in. Even if that situation is illness, vulnerability, or feeling small.”
“The stories in the HDC really inspire the students to see that other people have gone through difficult things, too. What makes them a hero is that they chose to do the right thing even when it was hard.”

Carlo Lancelloti delivered a thought-provoking keynote address on the new form of totalitarianism at last month’s International Solidarity Forum.
“[I]n order to justify itself, totalitarianism needs some sort of 'theory.' However, such theory is not concerned with expressing the truth, but rather with advancing a political project. Thus its proper name is ideology.”

During our 25th Birthday Gala, the Mary R. Smith Award was presented to Lauren McAfee for her distinguished service to the mission of WYA. Our founder, Halpine, shared:
“Lauren McAfee is a member of one of these families that are standing for the truth of the human person, regardless of the cost.
In 2012, the Green family, owners of Hobby Lobby, took the US Government to court. The contraceptive mandate of the Affordable Care Act, or ‘Obamacare’, required private employers to provide health insurance that included contraception and abortifacients to all employees.
Before filing the case, David Green, founder of Hobby Lobby, brought the issue to a vote: If required to implement the contraceptive mandate, would they shut down the company? Three generations of the Green family voted unanimously: the family would close the company rather than comply with the implementation of the contraceptive mandate.”
Congratulations, Lauren Green McAfee ! Thank you for your dedication to the dignity of every human person.
