CDI x REACH (Reimagining Entrepreneurship in the Arts, Culture and Humanities) took place earlier this month in Milan, Italy. Eight CDI graduates and alums participated in a one-week visual arts and design, creative and cultural exchange program.

Participants learned about local culture and artist practices, collaborated with French, Italian and Basque visual and performing artists, met industry professionals for mentorship, and engaged in workshops on visual arts, design and fabrication.

The program is a continuation of a 27-month global CDI collaboration, in part funded by the EU/Erasmus+ programs where participating partners share a mission to develop a creative and entrepreneurial synergy between young emerging professionals on an international level.

The Clive Davis Institute x Atlantic Records Songwriting Camp 2024 ran from May 20 to May 23 in the Atlantic Studios and WCM songwriting rooms at the Warner Music Group headquarters in New York City.

The camp was spearheaded by CDI alum (’18) and Atlantic Records executive, (Manager, A&R Operations) and included collaborative writing sessions by CDI alumni and students as well as daily guest lectures, discussions, and Q&As with WMG executives!

The Clive Davis Institute welcomed legendary emcee, writer and activist Chuck D this month for a conversation with his college classmate, Public Enemy creative partner, former CEO of Def Jam Recordings, and CDI instructor Bill Stephney to discuss the expansive history of hip-hop and it’s impact on contemporary popular culture.

Both as a solo artist and as the leader of the groundbreaking hip-hop group Public Enemy, Chuck D helped pave the way for political, social and culturally conscious hip-hop.

We are very excited to announce two new full-time faculty hires - and one new visiting full-time faculty hire - here at the Clive Davis Institute! All three will start in the 2023/2024 academic year.

Erin Tonkon and Bobby Wooten III will be joining CDI as full-time Assistant Arts professors in the production area. Naima Cochrane will join us as a visiting full-time Assistant Arts professor in the business & technology area for the 2023/2024 academic year!

Erin Tonkon - a producer, engineer, and mixer (and alumnus of CDI) - has worked with the likes of David Bowie and Esperanza Spalding. Bobby Wooten - a Grammy-nominated composer, producer and instrumentalist - has worked with the likes of David Byrne, Jennifer Lopez, and Mac Miller. And Naima Cochrane - a marketer and storyteller - has worked with the likes of Beyonce, John Legend, and Tyler The Creator.

Join us in welcoming these incredible new additions to the Clive Davis Institute Full-Time Faculty!

Congratulations to Nick Sansano on being appointed the next Chair of NYU-Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music!

The Institute is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and we will continue to be in outstanding hands with Nick at the helm, after Jason King completes his term at the end of the spring semester.

Nick joined the full-time faculty in 2004, and is currently the Institute’s Associate Chair and the Director of Production Curriculum. Nick began his professional career at Greene Street Recording in NYC, recording and mixing for the likes of Public Enemy, Ice Cube, Sonic Youth, and Run DMC.

Over a catered lunch, our students learned a lot about Spotify and its ongoing DEI efforts - and got a chance to hear from executives and leaders of color about the work they do at the company.

Blake Slatkin won for Record of the Year for “About Damn Time” by Lizzo and contributed to "Unholy" by Sam & Kim Petras (winner: Best Pop Duo/Group Performance)

Andrew Watt contributed to "Degradation Rules" by Ozzy Osbourne (winner: Best Metal Performance) and Patient Number 9 (winner: Best Rock Album)
