Tremendous congratulations to Caroline Nester!! Caroline was recently awarded the prestigious National Research Service Award (NRSA) Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Grant Award (F31) from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Caroline’s research, mentored by Laura Rabin, PhD, will use a novel, multifaceted approach to assess subjective cognition in Motoric Cognitive Risk Syndrome (MCR), an easily screened predementia condition that combines slow gait speed and subjective cognitive concerns, and predicts cerebrovascular-related risk in diverse older adult populations. Her study will be the first to systematically characterize the nature and extent of subjective cognitive concerns in MCR, facilitating new screening tools with enhanced sensitivity for dementia in health disparity populations around the world.

Keynote Address by Dr. Yaakov Stern

Dr. Stern’s research focuses on cognition both in normal healthy aging as well as in diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Stern is a leader in the “cognitive reserve hypothesis” which focuses on exploring how aspects of life experience, such as education, can help to preserve brain function in aging. His research also explores how cognitive reserve might lead to possible intervention to improve cognitive aging.
